Grame smith who has been SA captain for almost 7 years has decided to step down as T20 captain,he will quit as captain of odi side after 2011 world cup though he will continue as test captain, he mentioned that his contribution and continuation as part of SA team for next 5-6 years can only be possible if he gives up some of his responsibilities .He will be available for selection , in all three formats of the game though .Botha or AB de Villiers are front runners to replace smith .Do you think SA has better captain than Smith or its good for the team that he is giving up as captain .

i think its not bad, as sachin not captaining india smith will also play for long time for SA. and he had put his effort and lift the team to some extent, now someone else should take the responsibility. i think its not a bad move.

Yes mate i also think its a positive move as if Smith is not comfortable in leading the side he should give it to next best possible player in the side.Is its always good to quit with respect when you are not comfortable with the job rather than selectors making you quit later on . Thanks a lot for your response.

I was actually surprised to hear the news. But I think finally the frustrations of failing in the big tournaments and the choker tag got to him. I think he was really disappointed with this year's T20 world cup and finally decided to call it quits as a skipper. But I think he has done a great job in the post Hansie Cronje and Shaun Pollock era. He has made South Africa a better team in the test arena. So all the best to him for his future career as a normal player in the team. I think now AB De Villiers will take over from him, but I am not sure he is captaincy material, may be Mark Boucher is a better option. Cheers! Ram

This is a bad decision from Smith he is a fine captain and good player for T20 format. But South Africa not done well in the last 3 editions of T20 world cup.Still Smith can be a good captain for this format and he should continue for some more years before quitting from captaincy.

I think mate he is better as test captain than limited over side leader ,especially t20 side, having said that i am also not sure this decision would result well or not in future. Thanks a lot for your response.

Hello GRVDUB, Graeme Smith has been one of the best captains of SOUTH AFRICA.He has been performing his duty well.He also plays intelligently and sets the fielders according to the situation.I think Greame needs some rest as a captain. In the place of him, other players can be tested as a captain. But Graeme should quit his captaincy in ODI and T20.Then.the SOUTH AFRICAN team will find it hard in their future.

Hello sami, i also think he is the best man to captain the side but may be he thinks has done enough as being captain for so long and wants to concentrate on his batting now.But you are right that surely they will struggle to find captain like him in future. Thanks a lot for your response.
