My wife recently give birth to my second daughter and it has been already 1 month++ Now she is feeling that 2 months maternity leave is not enough. What do you think?

I took off the first year of my daughters life. It was such a blessing. I was able to bond with her and build a secure and loving relationship with her. Not only that but it did not put me through the trauma of leaving her with a sitter. If I was able to I would have never gone back to work and been a stay at home mom but I was not able to do that. I say it all really depends on the woman, but on average its about 12 weeks that is recommended.

Hello asxenon, I think that it differs with women. First, it is the maternal instinct that is felt when women give birth. Therefore, women do not want to leave their newborn infants. Personally, I think that women should take as much time as they need. I was able to stay home for two years with my first born. I am amazed however, at the number of women who take only 6 weeks maternity leave and then report back to work. I think mothers need to know that there will a trustworthy and loving person to care for their newborn, while she is at work. That was my main concern. Newborns cannot tell you what happened all day. Nonetheless, there are new studies out that state that children with parents who work, are stable and happy. Continue to support your wife, and help with the child care search. :)

here in canada you can take up to a year off or you can split it with your partner and take 6 months each. i would want as much time as i could get.
