Generalizing, are you guilty of this???

I know I am. I dont know if its natural to generalize from just one example like women are vain because your mom and sisters are vain or that men are polygamous because your dad is. Or that all politicians are corrupt here in the Philippines. I didn't know that I was doing this until a friend told me that I tend to generalize too many stuff and its not good because it leads to being judgmental. Old habits are hard to kick off though.

I generalize to what I know, but I know my limits. I always say that humans are naturally cruel or evil because we are. When people are too nice they are stupid. I say things like that and people think I should change my views but they haven't proven me wrong yet so should I conform to the majority or keep my ideas alive?

I used to have an opinion that all men are chauvinist pigs. I don't know about being naturally evil but I hope someone will come your way and change your view about mankind.

So you too are hoping that I become not myself and become something else huh? Well maybe it is better not to be yourself. I must lie then as you are hoping.

I guess I'm guilt of that, too. Usually when I'm driving. Like when one motorcycle rider cuts in front of me, I tend to say that motorcycle riders are not careful that's why there are so many accidents involving motorcycles. Sometimes that's just borne out of our initial reactions to a specific situation. We don't really mean it and it's not necessarily true, but we say it anyway. Maybe just to show how strongly we feel about the situation. I try not to say it in the presence of someone who I know will get offended, though. Just to keep the peace. =)

I agree and I also don't like motorcycle riders generalizing or not they do contribute to the rising vehicular accidents.

I am often guilty of this... But I counter such guilt with the recognition that for every rule, there is an exception. =)

Yes, I suppose I do from time to time, but I try to avoid it, since I know some things like that can be offensive to others. But I think everyone does that at some point, it is human nature!

Yeah, sometimes we couldn't turn it off. We may not say it out loud but our thoughts kinda automatically do it. Like when i see a pretty face on TV i sometimes said to myself I'm sure she's not that smart.
