The procedure is simple restart your computer after passing the BIOS press F8 you'll have the startup options, you can choose the safe mode or last known good configuration that worked Safe mode: Safe mode has various uses, it can be used for restoring your computer to a previous state, as said your system will be completely restored to that point, if you have installed any program ,it won't be there. Safe mode is generally used to restoring your computer, in case of faulty drivers which will lead to instability, in case of viruses and malwares you can use it to delete them, but you need to be an advanced user to do all this. System restore is the handy tool for newbies. Last known good configuration: Its simple as its self explanatory, if your system is not working properly and you've worked comfortably before, this may be due to some driver installations or other third party installations or missing/incompatible driver files. In this case you can choose this option, it will open your system in which state it worked well. The concept behind is, the system always saves the settings before shutting down, if your computer has switched off due to power failures or any other problems, the settings might not be saved and your system may be problem, in this case if you use this option, your system will work normally for you. I hope I've explained what you've asked for, if you have any other doubt you can ask me, will be happy to answer you Have a good day

When booting to safe mode follow this below. Windows 7 -Turn the computer on or restart the computer -start tapping F8 key. The windows Advance Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart computer again and try again. -ensure that the Safe mode Option is selected, not Repair Your Computer -Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe Mode Windows Vista / Windows XP -Turn the computer on or Restart the computer -Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advance Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again. -Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option) -Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode. -When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Starting your computer in safe mode can be used if the computer has a virus, in order to restore your computer to a previous time. Doing this will not make you lose any documents/music/pictures/etc, but if you've downloaded a program since the last restore point, you may lose that program. You computer should automatically be creating restore points when new software, like Windows Updates, are downloaded. To start in safe mode, completely shut down your computer and reboot it. Then, push F8, and you should see start up options. From there, choose Safe Mode. It may take a few minutes to load your files, and then you'll be in safe mode.
