I see on facebook and many other sites people use their kids pictures. I have never used my kids pictures online. It is not to say that I would or would not. This is why I am asking the question here. I would like to hear from you why you feel the way you do about this. I think we can help others who are thinking this as well......have a great day!

I do not have children but if I was I wouldn't recommend having their pictures up. I mean, I am pretty sure that you can just make your face book page etc on private to only let your family and close friends view the pictures but you really never know who to trust these days. $-MrDollars-$

My avatar is my son's profile. On my opinion I don't see any wrong reason on putting your child's picture as your avatar. My reason for putting it was that I am so proud with my son and wanted to show it to the world how lovely gift I received from God....And my son is now 6 years old, and he always wants to see his picture everywhere, in fact he already signed up to one of networking site, which is facebook, because when he saw my account, he ask me what is it, and he also like to have one....Too young I think, but somehow, there's nothing wrong with it! Have a nice day!

I never would, I only upload my kids pictures in sites like photobucket or facebook and it is saved to private or friends only. Even when my son won a drawing contest and his design was put on a shirt, when I took the picture, I cropped out his face and only shared the shirt here on mylot. I don't feel comfortable having my child's picture out there for all to see, there are too many weird people.. Like one time, back when MySpace was big someone had pictures of her little girl up and someone came along, copied some of the pictures and then made a fake, "The little girl went missing story" with the photos. Needless to say the mom freaked out and I think she did well with damage control by alerting everyone that it was not true..

In my opinion, you should NEVER post pictures of your kids as your avatar--there are just too many people who can see it who shouldn't. It is one thing to post/send pictures of your kids to friends and family or others you trust; it is another to have them posted so that anyone can see them. I won't even let my kids' school post pictures of them on the school website. Unfortunately, predators and others who seek to harm children troll the internet looking for these types of pictures and identifying information to go with them. And the consequences can be so severe, it is just not worth the risk. And predators are EVERYWHERE--take a look at your state's registry and you will see exactly what I mean. Our kids are exposed to enough dangers that we cannot prevent; I think posting their pictures as avatars is one that parents can and should prevent. Sorry for the very heavy tone, but this is a topic I feel very strongly about.
