Have you ever seen a actor play the villain and yet you like or even fancy him? I have done it Twice! The first role I saw Peter O'Toole play , he was a Nazi general! A Cruel, mad , murderer and yet I liked him . And then decades later it happened again, The first time I saw Ralph Fiennes He played a Nazi , a cruel murderer and yet I like him! Strange. Luckily I got to see both play better characters afterward. How about you? Have you ever liked the villain of the movie/play?

why would you not like an actor, an actor is an actor he is playing a role, that is not him as a person. I love lots of actors who play villians when they play them well. I judge them according to their acting ability.

I don't like them (gangsters) of any era because they are cold blooded killers, yes they make great hollywood movies, but tell it to their victims in real life.

But that's what I like about them, they are as coldblooded as I get when angered. I like These guys because for the most part they killed their own, just other gangsters. They weren't like the kids today who will kill Civilians along with their target.

In Indian films an actor named Pran used to play roles of the villain in all his films with such finess that people used to say that he must be a very bad person in real life too because of his very realistic prtrayels. Despite his villainous character he was the most successful actors of the Indian film industry. However his co-actors used to say that in real life he was one of the sweetest and kindest human beings to exist on this planet. He was loved by all and when he gave up doing villainous roles and started playing other characters including comedy everyone was taken by surprise.Today he has retired and is in his 90`s but still commands respect and love not only from his colleagues but also from the people in general. It only shows what consummate actors people like Peter `o Toole and Pran are as they have prtrayed their respective characters with such realism when in real life they are completely contrary to what they have shown themselves on the silver screen.

Over here we have a Pran-like actor we was Edward G Robinson, On screen he played rough gangsters. off screen he was an art connoisseur and a nice man. Casting against type works all the time. But to fall for an actor when he plays a Nazi the first time you see him is still bit much. I Know both Peter and Ralph are good people. That helps.

My favorite role of his , he plays a insurance investigator. Did you ever see Double Indemnity? If not , go rent it. It is a great film.

I have seen Edward G. Robinson in many old Hollywood movies, a short podgy man usually seen wearing a hat rakishly on his head in gangster style. He was a very good actor.

I remember something similar the first time I watched Fatal Attraction, I liked the character which Michael Douglas played but then realised that I shouldn't because he was at fault, he got caught with his pants down and did everything possible to squirm out of it. The same with Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street, you shouldn't like the guy, he's a nasty piece of work but yet there is something about Gekko which draws you to him.

Michael Is a chip off the old block. His dad played " bad" or should I say naughty characters You could love. I never saw Michael as the villain in Fatal Attraction , Glenn Close was for me. She wasn't good mistress material. Sorry, I am more of a mistress person than a wife so I saw it that way. As for Gekko? He was bad but he was having fun being bad. That's Always attractive.

I appreciate actors that are playing a villian rather than heroes. They are playing a much harder role. It is much easier to please the audience rather than make them hate you.

I heard actors say they prefer to play villains because there is more to do and it is fun.

i know where you are coming from as sometimes you think wow i liked you before as a goodie and now you're playing a villain you're even hotter! maybe it's because we are safe knowing it is all make believe any how but i am not talking about a crule nazi but crooks and bankrobbers because there they are law breaking wrong uns and the actor gets to do car chases and it is very exciting to see your favourite movie star in this action role.

So true. I think I wouldn't be so disturbed if they weren't playing Nazis. It is so strange to have the same reaction to two diffwerent actors about 20 years apart!

i think some who are cast as villains are good looking and charismatic that's why even though the role is very cruel and sadistic they still attract the audience. i kinda like the role of the villain, because they come out strong and cool and intellectual. although the lead also almost have all characteristics but the lead is somehow branded as the underdog or something similar to that.

I agree. It seems like the lead has to be less showy for some reason. Take Batman, most of the time he Has to be Bruce and then sometimes he turns into Batman . While the Joker Is the Joker 24/7.

Well, I actually liked several actors who played villains in the movie. For example is Gerald Butler in Law Abiding Citizen, Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and my most favorite one is actress Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding, who is actually the protagonist and antagonist at the same time at that movie . I liked them because they really carried their roles well, and the characters that they played has a deep reason for becoming the villains.

Nice topic , well i liked the role of Sergi López as Captain Vidal in Guillermo Del Toro's classic Pans labyrinth , i was shocked after watching that movie that how can a person be so cruel , i would not like to mention the scenes of that movie as that can be spoilers for someone who did not watch this movie but that was special villain character played beautifully by Sergi Lopez.Apart from this who can forget the superb work of Matt Damon in The Departed , Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds and above all Health Ledger as joker in Dark Knight.

If i really like the actor it doesn't matter to me whether he played villain roles in a movie. I like his looks and his acting so no problem if he kills or hurt people in the movies but just movies ok... not in real life lolz.
