How do you advertise in facebook?

So, some people advise me why try to use all the available advertising channel online possible to promote the products. It is free, and you might find some potential customers. So, I was thinking facebook and my space, and twitter can be the valid candidates. On facebook these few days, I might just hitting bushes, and just don't know what to do. I wish that I can contact with walmart, or other retail stores from facebook to start this promotion and advertisng. Can anyone give me some good advices?

you should start with facebook, just create a page with your facebook account. There are millions of people in facebook who are hooked to it all day, so try to take advantage of it..

Ok, I already started an account with facebook, and I input my miscellaneous information in it. So, All I need to do just add friends to it, and also create some feed to my feed page, is that what you suggest?

yep, add some friends, then create a page to offer your services or whatever you want to offer and suggest the page to your friends, and post the link of the facebook page everywhere, for example other facebook pages, blogs, websites...
