Truck Drivers--do a few bad apples ruin the bunch?

First off, let me say that I do not "hate" truck drivers. Many of my extended family members are truck drivers. That being said, I am noticing a trend lately with truck drivers being out of control and just downright rude on the road. My morning commute to work is 30 miles on one road that is a single lane almost the entire way. There are two passing zones and 5 miles of double lane at the very end of my commute. This road is used by alot of trucks. Most of them are very polite and courteous, pulling to the side going uphill so motorists can pass, etc. But there is ALWAYS at least one trucker who feels the need to express his dominance of the road by speeding up when we enter the passing zone and even swerving into the passing lane so you cannot pass him. Once we get to single lane again, he slows to a crawl.....and if you DO succeed in passing, sometimes they will speed up and ride on your bumper even though you are going 10-15 MPH over the speed limit and they had been going 10 under. I guess my question is, do these bad drivers hurt the reputation of the other good drivers out there? I know for me anytime I see a truck in the distance, my first reaction is "great, another jackass", even if they turn out to be just another courteous driver on the road.. And please, no "if you have it - a truck brought it" comments, that is so old and overused :Ob

Yes, you are right, a few bad apples usually ruins the reputation of other good truck drivers! I am a truck driver, and I know for a fact that 75% of the truck drivers out there are decent people! Seriously, I would report them, because the company doesn't want any bad publicity associated with themselves, and they will definitely reprimand a bad driver! Four wheelers have just as much right out there on the highway, as truck drivers do !

Very well said. I have thought of reporting them, thats what my cousin who has been driving truck for almost 10 years told me to do. Funny thing is most of the bad drivers cover their identifying marks with mud and dirt so you couldnt report them if you wanted to....
