Moving things around

Well, my house sometimes is like a giant version of those puzzles you have to move things around to get things in place. Most of the house isn't that bad, but I've not been able to get the front room organized because I have so much stuff and no place to put it! So, we had this bookcase in the kitchen used for storing things that didn't matter if they got cat fur on them, like refills of the "smell goods" and stuff. I had a bookcase in my bedroom that had audio books on it, but the case under it wasn't being well used because of the bad cats. So, I want to move that out of the bedroom, and that meant moving the bookcase off. I had need of a narrow bookcase in the front room for the fanzines I inherited from the friend that died in January. So, I had to move the little one off the cabinet, clean it; take everything out of the kitchen one, clean it; load the stuff from that one to the little one and then move the kitchen one into the front room. I also had to pack up stuff to get it out of where the bookcase needs to go. I'm not able to do this all at one time. So, Tuesday I packed up a couple of tubs with stuff and moved that into the kitchen to get it out of the way. Today I've done the bookcase stuff... so, I now can unpack boxes of fanzines on to the shelves. Next on the agenda after that...? probably something to do with empting the remains of stuff from that cabinet in the bedroom and clean it... Makes me tired just thinking about it! So, what have you done lately?

I went shopping! This is my last day before my neck surgery and, since I'll be wearing one of those stupid neck braces for six weeks after the surgery, I figure I won't be driving much. Probably wouldn't be a good idea, anyway. So, I got my need to shop out of me today. Mostly, I just perused some of my favorite stores, seeing what they had. I've spent a large part of the last three years going through my mother's stuff which was mostly piled up in the garage in boxes. I've had enough of that for awhile and just wanted to get out and do something I enjoy doing since I won't have much of a chance to for awhile after tomorrow. Your rearranging sounds like what I go through every time I start a new craft project. I've been trying to get things organized in boxes on shelves or bookcases but things do have a tendency to get piled onto other things, especially if I'm in a hurry. Luckily, that is the only area where I have to move things to get to other things. My mother's things are almost all gone through, except for her photographs but they're pretty much organized now. I hope your efforts were/are worth it and it all looks better now. When it's all over, stand back and admire your handiwork. All that work sure gives you the right to pat yourself on the back.

Well, the other roommate came in tonight and moved the cabinet out of my bedroom, so its in the kitchen to be cleaned!!! She is mopping in my bedroom!!! I ought'a change my bed just in honor of having a clean room! I'm going to guess that tomorrow we'll clean the chest and get it into the front room and then I can load it up! today we did a few things to get the roomie ready for her cruise in 2 weeks.

I’m tired just reading about all this moving of stuff! I hurt my neck from sitting at the dining room table with the laptop to the point that I cannot absolutely sit there anymore or I’m in agony! I went to the doctor who gave me some anti-inflammatory tablets and I am still in pain! I was looking at a friend’s laptop this morning as she was sitting next to me and I ended up having to stand because the pain was unbearable. So no spring cleaning for me at the moment! This has all been caused from too much MyLottting! I wonder if I can claim sick pay (LOL...

I wish! Heck, I don't even tell the job when I hurt myself because I don't want them getting worried about it - since mostly I hurt myself because of my clumsiness!

We had to empty out the conservatory,as we are having big changes in our house.I can not move things as it is painful to stand let alone to try to walk.My daughter helped my husband sort most of it out and let me tell you now we have loads of room in there aswell as it looks really tidy. The only problem with sorting things out like that it fills the bins up,as you never realise how much rubbish there really is.At least they have cleared most of the things out of there now, aswell as it looks alot, lot better.Everything takes time todo and while you are trying to sort one room out,you are seeing the other rooms looking abit of a mess, lol.

After all that re-arranging sounds a break is needed. I will be willing to buy some coffee and a danish if someone could come over by me and re-arrange it all for me. It is something we put off for a very long time, but then one day we can no longer take and tackle it all. Then end result is content, but then we find something else to move around again.

I can identify so strongly here. And we have people move in and out on what seems like a regular basis, and bring more stuff with them. I am in the midst of doing away with some things that are impractical or that I do not have emotional attachment to. This hubby tends to bring home large pieces of furniture and stuff I do not need. Desks, for instance. I have a passion for tables. I have two desks that have become more or less "Pile it" places and the drawers are catch alls. I am going to get them both gone this week, I hope. Like you, I do only a little at a time.

Your house sounds a lot like my house I've been trying to get the clutter cleared, but it's been a stop - go (more stop than go) process and the place still looks like a disaster area.

I kid you not, at 4:40 on Sept 2nd, we can't at the moment get in or out the front door, but I will soon be fixing that problem!

Situations like this are exactly why I got rid of most of my stuff when I moved. Sure, there are things in the house that I don't need--things my kids made in school, photographs, etc. But I can pack up everything that matters in my car. I no longer collect magazines--I had years of Guitar Player and other guitar mags that I gave away before I moved, books that could cover an entire wall! No more. I feel free now, nothing tying me down or needing to be dusted and moved around. I never want to be tied down by "stuff" again!

If I never move again it will be too soon, I have said that for years! Sometimes I think I'd just like to get rid of all of it, but then I get all cold inside!

Hi Elic~ I have been "sort of re-doing my livingroom now for two years and I do a little and stop. I mean I stop and forget about it for months. It is a tiny room! I only have a small 3 room apartment! What's wrong with me? But, once I decide to do something I remember how much fun it is and how good it feels when it's done. I am an incredible procrastinator, but when the seasons change, like now going into Fall since I have to change my closet over (that's how cramped my space is) since I have Winter clothes in suitcases that's when I'll get ambitious again!

ya see, once I find an arrangement that works, I want it to stay that way... besides, my bed is a platform bed so its too heavy for me to move

I have also been doing some spring cleaning and rearranging. Clutter kills me, I have to throw away something every other day. I have a thing about rearranging out bedroom at least once a month. In a week or so my mom will be moving in with us. So I have had to move my girls into the living room and compact everything again. So I suppose this means I will probably be throwing more stuff away then usual. I have been trying to cut down my clothes, giving them away here and there. Whatever doesn't fit or I don't wear it's gone. I think there is surely a such thing as fall cleaning too. The cooler, rainy weather, makes you want to get your house refreshed too.
