Right hand drive or Left hand drive ?

Why is it that in some countries like say canada it is a Right hand drive whereas in say India it is Left Hand drive ? what is the consideration ?when & how is it decided ?

i think its been done by the country rules, anyways i live in india and its right hand drive here...... what about you?

This no doubt goes back to the very early days of the horse and cart. It would soon have been realised that it was necessary to keep to one side to avoid accidents, and would become more obvious as the population increased. The choice of side as standard would have been selected well before communication and travel was a dominant factor, so the choices would be independent for each country. A few countries have actually changed the side they drive on. I remember one of the Scandinavian countries changing a long time ago, and the accident rate increased until people finally became accustomed to it.

In Australia we drive on the left hand side of the road. Not sure why this is so, but it has always been the case. :)

hi,in india,people will drive as right hand drive..i was using car since 10 years,i never come across..left hand drive..i saw in holly wood movies only..
