Is the Time of CD/DVD over?

the way techogoly is growing yes cds are becoming just like the betamax and cassete tapes... Almost no one buys the music he/she wants as a CD in a CD store. Many people prefer downloading or they use their cell phone, computer or I-Pod to listen to music. Is the time of the CD over? Or will it be over soon? What do you think? and If you were using CDs as a Back up then now ONLINE BACKUP system is also available on Internet.Technology is always moving FORWARD, and soon old technology becomes obsolete. We are in a transition still, but think about it, does anyone still use computers from 1995? Maybe 1 and only because it is unavailable to them. CD's had their moment in time and that moment is setting.......

I think CD/DVD will finally be replaced by something, but the reason is not what you gave. Yes, the rapid development of Internet provides us a more convenient way - downloading. But we must notice that there are always some places where Internet is not available, and some secret information is not allowed to transfer via Internet. Offline data store devices will never be replace absolutely by online services.

No,I don't think that it is the time of CD/DVD over yet. With the development of ours techogoly, more and more old products give way to the new ones. But I think CD/DVD also had a big market at present.Such as listen to music by CD,watch movies by DVD when we are not on line and use light disk to conserve important data and so on.So I think they also play an important role in our modern society.Maybe it will give way to some other products in the furture, but not now.

I don't think so that the time for CD and VCD is over. Nowadays, a lot of people are still patronizing cd's. If you go to some shopping malls there are a lot of customers looking and buying them. Although, it is as easy as pie to download those music in our computer through internet, there still people buy cd and vcd in their home. I do too. I like to buy them as my collection of my favorite songs and movies though I have them in my i-pod.

I dont think they are extinct..yet...I think in the future we will see movies sold primarily via download or via a flash drive type object...CD's will probably be the first to go

If you are talking in terms of watching movies and listening to songs, I feel the time has come to say good bye to cd/dvd. We generally download all the movies and songs and can watch it on players through usb. In terms of data transfer the cd/dvd are still used quiet frequently. But sooner or later this will also become obsolete.

I really don't think the time of CD/DVD is over considering the fact that I can see hundreds and thousands of Cd/Dvd's being sold at markets here. Mostly illegal, pirated CD/DVD's. As much as how comfortable and easy it is for us to just download music, videos, etc. from the internet and then straight to our ipods, music players, usb drives... it just doesn't seem that the time of CD/DVD is over.

I do think that the time of CDs is coming to an end, but I really don't think that there is a better way to backup your data from your computer than to use DVDs because they are much more secure than using an extra hard drive or backing up online. Who is to say that your extra hard drive won't accidentally get dropped or there won't be a disaster with the server at the place where you choose to do your online backup. I think it will be a long time before there is a great way to replace your data backup methods.

Not really although there is fierce competition from thumb drives. While thumb drives are useful only for pcs and laptops there is still use for the CD/DVD in cars and buses. We'll have to wait if there are better thumb drives with storage capability bigger than the CD/DVD. We have yet to see if pcs are going to replace CD/DVD decks in cars and buses. Till then there is still good use for them (CD/DVD).

I see CD's and DVD's just like the 8 tracks and cassettes a thing of the past. Each year things will continue to progress in a way that these will be so cheap but unless you have the players no one will be running to get them.

I don't think that the time of cd/dvd is over yet. I mean if you look around they are still the important means of data transfer and they are used by almost everyone who use a computer.

as yet not everyone has a PC so because of that CD/DVD will still be around but when it becomes the norm that everyone has a PC of some sort, be it in a generation or so then yes i think that is when they will be in danger

I think today very fewer persons are used to CD or DVD.. because the time of CD/DVD are passed.. and now the time of USB drives or flash drives.. yes you can easily store your data on a flash drive.. and traveling it anywhere.. and their is no fear of damage data in a flash drive.. i also use flash drive instead of CD or DVD..

Cd/DVD won't be phase out in the near future. The mere fact blue ray disc is now in circulation means that the technology is also coping up with the current trends. Online backups won't do you no good if you don't have a steady connection to the internet of course.
