Mm. I read from a book that the term nightmare comes from a name nyghte-maere. Supposedly they are evil female spirits that feed on the energy of a sleeping person, sort of like energy-vamp, and therefore create bad dreams. Can't say if it's true or is it just folk lore.

It is a fear that is stored in our brains and comes out every now and then. Usually they come up when we think negative before going to bed or watched a horror or a terrifying movie before falling asleep. It can also happen when we have bad experience during a day or for a period of time and we cannot loosen up even when we are going to sleep. This is what I think about nightmares and how they produce.

Over the years I have many types of nightmares. I don't have them all the time but when I do they are pretty aweful. I have had nightmares where there was a ghost, nightmares where someone was trying to kill me, nightmares where something happens to one of my kids. Those are the worst ones, having something happen to my kids is my worst fear so of course those are the most aweful.

Nightmares are attributed to subconscious troubling events in our lives. Sometimes when we have financial problems and or other sorts of troubles that we continue to feel bad and or think about them too much, our subconscious minds tend to bring out the scares and or insecurities through dreams.
