My Parents Freezer.....

Hey folks! It's been a busy two days here and it's why I haven't replied back to any of you since making two discussions and I'm sorry for that! But I'm here now and will be catching up once again! Thursday, just after I got my new baby girl, PG (Pretty Girl) dad had called me and told me their big freezer (in mom's storage shed) went out and wondered if we could come and help them. I told him that we were an hour away but are on our way. He said he tried to get help from his neighbors but nobody was home so I sent out text messages to some of his neighbors and one came to help. By the time we got there, a repair man came and repaired it..... or so we thought and we went home. Well, yesterday it went out again and the repair man said it was too costly to fix this time so they'll have to buy another one. So dad is going to find a used one in the next day or two. In the meantime, dad called me asking if I'd come up and help clean up the mess and get rid of the bad stuff and I did. WHAT A MESS!! Water and those kids icy pop thingys - one had a tear and it went everywhere! I cleaned out the freezer and took all the 'bad' stuff down into the woods for the wild animals to eat. Then I vacuumed up the dirt and dried up the wet spots so I could vacuum there too and then I mopped and mopped some more! The mop water was so dirty that I had to dump it and get some fresh to do the floor again. It was so darned hot inside that building even with two fans going, I had to do half the floor and take a break before doing the other half. I drank a huge bottle of tea to keep myself hydrated but it's all done now! Yeah!! lol Hubby was here at home finishing up with cleaning our house because I couldn't. So now mom's shop is clean and so is my house!!!!! How much better than that can it get? LOL Now back to catching up with you all!!

i CERTAINLY KNOW WHAT A MESS U HAD. i HAD A FREEZER go out a few years back & what a gosh awful mess it was to get cleaned up. Majority my food was still good just needed cooking. MY neighbors & i cooked for 2 days. I lost very little but it was still a mess. Jenn came over & helped me & her husband took all the meat home & grilled it.What a blessing they were. We didn't have to cook for awhile, that's for sure, lol. U were very sweet to go help them. I don't know what they would do w/out u, Cat. Good for hubby to clean for y'all while u were there helping your parents. I think he must be a pretty special guy to.

Hi Jo! Hubby and I had the very same thing happen to us too when we were in Texas and we did the same thing, cooked everything and got a new freezer but wow! What a mess it gave us! We liked to have never gotten it cleaned up! Mom and dad both were so grateful for my being there for them that they said it over and over again. It does make me feel good but I don't want them to fall all over me either. I did what any child would do for their parents, you know? And yeah, hubby can be a gem - when he wants to be.

I do not know how you get so much done, and just keep on going. It is good hubby is a good house cleaner so that you can have a nice place to come home to and rest. I hate cleaning the freezer, but I try to keep up with it. I did have a melt down this summer when we had power go out. Stuff did not completely thaw, so I ended up cooking up a bunch of stuff. Kind of you to take the wild furry things a snack.

Sometimes I wonder that too GG. I really do. The truth of the matter is, when I was doing dad's cross stitch, I cleaned my house ONE time in the four months. It was dirty but the cross stitch was more important because of my dad's health. I mean, I did do some cleaning here and there but the rest waited. I did some of the work over the course of three days and the fourth day I was going to finish it but mom and dad needed my help so hubby offered to do it for us which helped me a great deal so I could rest today if I needed to and did. lol

Your a good daughter Cats, your hubby is a good hubby too. I know hubbies have their moments, but you know you got a good one. I envy you having a clean house. My house is tore up, is been invaded with new house apes, Help, Calgon take me away..... My daughter and her family have been going thru alot of crap. Her hubby left her, they got divorced, she lived across the street, she got evicted, long story short. I have a path from my front door to my back. I know its temporary but gee whiz is been going on for awhile now. I want to do some major cleaning but just can't do it right now. I have cleaned up a freezer from it being accidently unplugged, yuck!!!!.

Yes I do feel like I am going round and round, no end in sight. I have been escaping and getting the heck up outta dodge. For the last couple of months I have been going to my moms and spending Saturday night with her. it gives me a break plus its time spent with her. Lately she has been having special projects for me to help her with. We have been canning the last two weekends. My two sisters live so far away, they are missing out on so much. Someday they will be sorry. I will have the memories with her.

Oh good gosh Polly!! NOT again?! *sigh* Don't you feel like your world is going around and around with no stop in sight? I felt that way too when my mom went down but it has calmed down quite a bit, mom and dad have learned to appreciate me more since I've backed WAAAAAAY off those few times. Now they really show their appreciation!! It's nice and all but I don't want them falling over me though.

Oh my goodness sounds about like my week :( Last weekend made the move to a smaller apartment for sanity & economic reasons but meant cleaning my old apartment and the new one which was left a mess. On top of those 2 I also cleaned another apartment for my landlords (take money off my rent in exchange) and I'm cleaning house for my landlords who are going in a million directions all the time and no time to deep clean their own home... I'm sick of cleaning :)

Sounds like you're going in all different directions too byfaithonly! Wow! I'd be sick of cleaning too if I were you. Gosh, that's a lot of cleaning! Hope you're wearing gloves or using lotion on your hands. Cleaners are so bad to our skin. Wait till you hear about last night at my house. WHEW!! But we all lived to tell the tale.....

Your parents are so lucky to have you! You’re fortunate to have a good husband that will clean the house for you too; can you imagine doing all that work at your mum and dad’s place and then coming home to a dirty house? It is a good feeling to finish a well done job, good on you cats, you’re a hero! Now rest up!

Actually, I already did a lot of the work in cleaning our house, just couldn't do the dusting, vacuuming and scrubbing so hubby did that while I went to help my parents. Hubby is a really great guy, he knows it's his mess too so he pitches in without any complaints..... for that I'm SO lucky! Wait till you read about what happened last night..... WHEW! We're all alive and lived to tell the tale......

I have never actually had a freeze got out (knock on wood), however, last February we had the electricity go out for 3 days. We didn't have much in the freeze thank goodness, however my parents had a ton of stuff in theirs. I also don't think my parents have cleaned their refrig in years. They are in their 80s so it is understandable. We cooked all the meat in the freezer (which has since thawed). Then we cleaned the entire freezer area and refrigerator area. IT was a mess! My husband was laughing at me as I was gagging away (what a mean man)! When this happened, my parents were vacationing in Florida. My mother was in shock when she came home because her refrig was spotless inside, it almost looked brand new. Bless her heart, she started to cry. She said she must be a terrible person to have such a messy refrig. I told her that is what her children are for, to help her clean now that she is in her golden years.

Wow! What great kids you two are! I can imagine how shocked and happy your mother must've been to come home to a cleaned out and cooked freezer..... to know her daughter and son in law did that for her had to make her feel so loved! Good for you for being the good daughter! (Everybody says that about me too.... )

Well now I am blushing! Everything in their refrig. and freezer would have been bad and by the time they would have come home it would have smelled terrible. As far as helping my parents, I figure that they took care of me when I was little, changing stinky diapers, sitting with me when I was sick and so on. Now it is my turn to take care of them. I take them to the grocery store, help with the wash, etc. They don't ask me, but I try to help them out as it is hard for them at their age. In my eyes, children are suppose to help their parents when they become elderly. It is the right thing to do.

I think they realize that too. Having no kids does give me that extra advantage to just get up and go when they need me.

Hey MB, Sounds like you've been really, really busy lately. Hubby and I want to get a small freezer and I think we'll just stick to a new one. As long as it isn't too big, then they aren't very expensive. I've been very lucky not to have one go out on me. Sorry you had to clean up the mess. Thankfully hubby cleaned your house. Well, rest up. Talk to you soon. Love Ya Leenie

Yes I sure have been busy lately. I hope it all slows down a bit so we can get my parents porch railings painted, both front and back because they so need it. We have a small freezer too and love it! There's really no need for a big one when it's just the two of us like you and your hubby. My parents have always had a big one and I guess they'll always have a big one. My guess is, they had neighbors that would bring them an abundance of garden stuff so they had to have a big enough freezer to put it all in but now that they've moved, they really don't need that size of a freezer anymore but it's a matter of to each his own thing.
