Have You Had To Take A second Job Because of the Economy?

It seems to be getting harder and harder to make ends meet. Trying to pay the mortgage, monthly bills, credit cards after a job loss is driving us crazy. So I've decided to take on a second (or third job, if you count what I do online) job. I'm lucky that I work 4 10's so I have 3 days off a week. My plan is to work on Wednesdays and saturdays about 7am to 2pm. A friend works at McDonalds (she's a manager) and is going to talk to her store manager about getting me on. I know it's not alot of extra cash, I'll probably only get minimum wage but as with clicks it all adds up. I'm certainly NOT looking forward to having to do this but until things start looking up for us I don't see any other way. have any of you had to work a second job? I think it's so sad that we live in America and there are no good jobs left to where we can just pay our bills, much less have any spending money. Good luck to all of us.

Ya, I need to look for a second job in order to service the loans and pay the bill. The problem is that, while I am looking for one, there are many others out there who looking for their primary jobs. There are just to many people out there and the job available is too little. The economy downturn certainly screwed up the lives of many.

Yes it did, I just pray that something good starts happening. I'm lucky to have my friend pulling for me. I'm a manager in fast food at my primary job and she says that will help pull me in. Keeping my fingers crossed she's right.

I know this much is true. I've been looking for more work myself..and am doing everything I can to earn online. Our local Mickey D's only hires if you speak spanish-all the employees are hispanic..so that's out for me-I took french in HS. There are no jobs in my area right now-everyone is fighting for them. All I can do is pray and hope that I get more qualified surveys

A few months ago, when everything really looked bleak for us, I also had to go on hunting for another job. A friend of mine had a cleaning company, and they needed help in doing night shifts at a local mall. I was all signed up but my start date kept on getting moved. While waiting for this second job to start, I got my mortgage re-done, and the reduction in wages we had on my first job was given back. After careful calculation, I decided to stick with the one job. This would help me not to have lesser time with the children, not to mention help me get enough sleep. Sorry to hear that you have to take on McDonald's and sacrifice your weekends. I do hope it gets better down the road. Good luck to you!

I work two part time jobs beside my full time job, but like you they really are not enough. I would like to make more money but I think I am out of time. There are only so many hours in the day to work and I just don't have any left. I am not ready to give up sleeping yet. It really is sad that so many people are either out of work or have jobs that do not make ends meet. I wish you luck.

Well, I agree with you that Economy has made lot of people lose jobs and made their life harder. But one thing I still don't understand is that Economy has affected everyone around then why only the job-doing people are supposed to suffer. I mean the sole proprietors and the small businessmen are still in profit and they are still keeping the prices high.(This is the situation at least in my country)

I don't understand either. But as for the prices around here most shops are having great sales all the time. back when we had money my favorite place was Abercrombie. They used to NEVER have sales and now they even have some good prices.

I also did. With the high cost of living here in our country, having one job is not enough. There's really a need to look for another source of income. Though it's difficult to balance your time between 2 jobs, determination will keep you going because you think of the welfare of your family.

I had to do this about a year ago. I work full time mon - friday and then I have a second job on Saturday where I work 12 hours. It is a very long day but I am glad to get in all my hours in one day. I also do alot of work online too. So I too have 3 jobs. It is an awful way to live. I am always exhausted.

I work 2 jobs also... If working online counts, then it means I work 3 jobs. I work at 8 to 5, mostly I have overtime. And it is usually till 8pm. So I work from 8 to 8.. 12 hours. Twice a week, I work till 5 at the office, at 6, I go to teach English at an English course. Almost every night I get home at 9.. After cleaning myself, I usually start to sit in front of my computer to work online again.. I wanna do everything to earn. Because, like what you said, day by day, life's getting harder. It is very difficult to meet the end.. Good luck for you and me, and all of us.. !!

I am also working at a restaurant during the weekend, and I have to keep my payment months after months. Luckily, I living with my parents, and eliminate the expensive house rental from outside. I have no complaint so far, no matter, I have to take care of my debt first, and then I can do something else.
