I remember Batistuta, he was a good striker, who had some surprising moves on the field, and that is why he scored so many goals. He played for Fiorentina, Roma and a short period for Inter. He scored almost every game a goal, that is why his nickname was Batigol. He also did a fantastic job at the Argentine national team, were he was the striker nr.1 for a long period of time. He retired in 2002 from the national team and in 2005 for good, if I remember correctly. But I think the Argentine, Fiorentina and Roma fans will never forget him, because he was a quality player, and if I remember well he was always with the smile on his face.

I am surprise that someone will mention Batistuta here. He was one of my favorite striker in his heyday. I can still remember the Argentina's forward lineup consisting of Maradona, Canniga and Batistuta. One of the most feared strike force. I think I read before that the fans of Fiorentina has erected a statue of him in the city. If this is true, then one can imagine how much they loved him.

iam surprise too, you could remember very well about cannigia and batistuta in world cup 94...batistuta make a hattrick when argentina kick out Greece 4-0. but i think the best performance batistuta in world cup is world cup 98 and world cup 2002 even in world cup 2002, argentina make a bad performance, very bad i think

Gabriel Batistuta and Claudio Cannagio ; I think these are two of the best players from Argentina overshadowed by Maradona. In fact, in the 2000 world cup, Cannagio scored for argentina against italy which was the first goal against them in the semis? He scored by a side back header.
I remember some world cup scenes. One of them is the Rudi Voller and Frank Riijkard both being shown red cards after they had a spitting contest!! Lovely memories
Another is Roger Milla taking the ball away from the Colombian Goalkeeper who was
was playing as a defender and scoring the goal!!

Sorry! I think it was 94 then. The cup when Argentina lost to Germany in the finals. I remember that scene vividly on the TV. The Italian Goalkeeper was on a record and then bam! the ball is inside the net of Cannagia's header. I've forgotten who took the cross but it was a set-piece.

I used to like Batistuta when he used to play for Argentina. BatiGol as he used to be called was lethal in front of the goal. I have not followed him very much at the club level, but whatever I have seen at the international level suggests that he would have had a good club career as well.
Cheers!

Oh I adore him so much! Great skills, personality and handsome!Unfortunately, he was not that successful in the World Cup ( Second round 1994, Quarter 1998, elminiated in the first round 2002), but in Copa America he led Argentina to win Copa twice (1991, 1993) and succesful career in serie A. I don`t know where he is now..
