Was there a time you got intimidated while driving?

I am not sure if this is the proper menu to post this but anyways...I have been driving for while and i would say i am a pretty safe driver. Always check blind spots, never beat a red light, being courteous and share the road with other users etc. A few weeks ago, while on the outermost left lane, the car on my right suddenly swerve to avoid a public transit that is pulling out of the bus bay! Two things - one obviously, he don't want to yield and secondly he dont want to be stuck behind the bus that will make frequent stops. I was really horrified. Thankfully i was quick to react, sound my horn and yes, i did swerve a little to my left so he dont hit me. Ever since that, i seem to be paranoid driving. Was so cautious...Very cautious...to the point that i dont trust anyone driving along with me.

That must've been terrifying, but you certainly aren't alone. I often find there are a lot of maniacs driving out there that really shouldn't have their licenses in the first place and it's scary thinking that anything could happen. The other day hubby and I were driving into town (he was driving) and we went around a turn (the roads are all curvy in our area as it is) and there was a truck that was FULLY on our side of the road! I was absolutely terrified even though I wasn't driving. It's a narrow enough road as it is and there's no shoulder, so swerving too far to the right on our side means going down a small lip and then into someone's yard (or a tree or something). Luckily, the truck pulled back into their lane in time, but I have no idea what it was doing in our lane in the first place as it wasn't passing or anything and it was a straight away they were on! So I definitely know how you feel.

thanks for sharing the same thought. Really accidents is really accident. Nobody plans it but it just happens. We just really have to be defensive all the time.

There are a lot of crazy drivers out there. And I just keep that in mind when I'm on the road - it's called defensive driving. You don't know what the other driver is gonna do so you're better off assuming they'll do the worst case and be ready for that. Keeps you from getting into an accident.

I'm usually very wary when I'm driving by semi trucks on the freeway. I had one swerve into my lane right when I was driving past it on the freeway. It was a really close call and I had to speed up way above the speed limit to avoid it. But ever since then I tend to get somewhat paranoid when I drive past them. Another incident was when these kids came out of a store parking lot and swerved right in front of me almost making me rear end them. I was just minding my own business on the main road when they suddenly popped up. They didn't even bother to stop and check to see for oncoming cars before pulling their stunt. That incident really pissed me off because my mom was in the car with me and she was seriously freaked out about it.

I ride a motorcycle and that sort of driver scares the hell out of me. My mother asked me why I would want to do something like motorcycling with all the crazies on the road, not paying attention because they are on their phone or texting, or the ones who just don't look around. The only thing I can tell you is that you can only control what situations you get into on the road, and you cannot control what the other person is going to do. So when you are cautious, this is good, as long as it isn't caution to the point of causing an accident. I think there is a fine balance between defensive driving, and in the football vernacular, offensive driving. You need to be able to get yourself away from the driver who seems to not be paying attention. The one who is swerving slightly in their lane, not turning cleanly, or slowing and speeding at random moments. Make sure you look farther down the road than just the car ahead of you. Be on the lookout for issues like your bus incident, and either get away from the car who you think might swerve out, or anticipate it.
