Zhang Ziyi as Mulan

Just an hour and 46 minutes ago. Yahoo News announced that Zhang Ziyi will play as Mulan for English Productions. Ziyi's movies included Rush Hour 2 with fellow aisan Jackie Chang, Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon, Horsemen and the unforgettable Memoirs of a Geisha. I was so happy that she will play the role because I know she has background in Martial Arts and I know Asian Movie Stars really undergoes training to perfect their roles when it comes to action films. I am looking forward to this one and I am never excited. I don't think anyone could also fit the role except her. Though there are other actresses in my mind but she's the perfect one. The director will be Jan de Bont whose previous works including Twister, The Haunting and Lara Croft The Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

That is exciting that Zhang will be receiving work, but I'm not sure about the director. Twister was ok, but the last two movies on the list truly were a let down. Hopefully Mulan will be better, but I'd hoped that one of the Asian directors would have picked it up. I've been watching a lot of movies as of late that are made in Hong Kong, etc and they are far superior in effects and story line to that of western films in the same arena. Namaste-Anora

Hi, anora. Been a while. How are you my friend? I really have my hopes up since Zhang Ziyi is a great actress and I have faith in her that she will really portray the role well. :D I have also watch some of the films in Hongkong, though majority is Jackie Chan's and I agree with you that when it comes to technology and special effects - they sure are catching up.

I've been doing really well thanks! Enjoying the Ren Fest again this year to the fullest. Are you on Facebook? You should add me there and then you can see all the recent pics. Have you seen Restless Sword? That's the type of quality I was talking about and the types of movies out of Hong Kong that are really wonderfully done. I can't recall the director off the top of my head, but it would be nice if they did one on Mulan. So, we'll just have to see lol. I like her so I hope it's a good movie. Though, that said, I believe Forbidden Kingdom was an American done film and it was very good. Strong actors does say alot. Namaste-Anora

I like it! I like her and I think she fits the character of Mulan. I mean, who else would. She's also Chinese and mulan is also chinese so she knows the story very well. Its their culture too.

True. And she's a good actress too so I can't think of anyone who can portray her well.

I like Zhang Ziyi and I would be waiting for that. Meaning to say that is live action? She is actually a flexible actress where she can sing and dance as well that can do the drama. I also like Jackie Chan. I like them both because I love seeing people who are doing martial arts.

Oh my gosh! I didn't even know this was going to happen! They're making a Mulan "real people" movie? (Are we talking about Disney's Mulan?) I love that movie! It's one of the last few animation movies before Disney completely shifted to Pixar-like films. I think picking Zhang for the lead is a good idea. I think she can play the role really well. I liked her in the other movies she was in. I didn't know she does martial arts. That would be very interesting to watch. As for the director, I hope he doesn't disappoint. There are a lot of Mulan fans.

Hi, Romania, Yes, you can find the news in Yahoo. I was even surprised too. But happily surprised because I am one of Mulan's fans also. I love that movie so much. They are still working their way in production so I hope that whatever may comes, I am sure that director will do his best since his previous works are all great ie Twister, The Haunting. So let's all hope for the best.
