Good day to you Fellow Mylotter, So many times, I thought my colleague was talking to me. I kept on looking to her since she was saying some words but to my surprise she was not talking to me, instead she was just talking to herself all alone. For this reason, I was so surprised. There are times, I am thinking if this is fine. Also, thinking if my colleague is really fine.

I used to talk to myself a lot when I was kid. I guess I had an imaginary friend. Though I still sometimes talk to myself when I'm thinking about things and when I'm angry. I think it's normal since I've seen other people talking to themselves also when they are thinking.

This is probably Episode 1 of the movie A Beautiful Mind. By chance, have you ever won the Nobel Prize?

Lol, probably. =) Nope, but that would be nice. Only prize I have won was a video game for the PS2 and a cassette player in my life. =P

All the time. That inner voice inside you that always wants to put in, his/her 2cents in every decision you make.

Can't say I watched it before, but sounds familiar. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a movie about it.

All the time. Especially when I'm trying to figure out something complicated. I have also done it in thought in public. Once a person turned and said, "What?" - I wasn't looking at him or anything, just chatting away to myself. How rude it was, trying to get in on a private conversation. Everyone has conversations with themselves, just mostly in their head. I just occasionally vocalize it. No, I'm not one of those grumbling or screaming angrily all the time. Those people scare me, but I know it is some kind of medical problem.

I don't. My wife does however and I have had a conversation with her numerous times, thinking that she was indeed awake only to find out when I ask something she's actually a sleep. My son and daughter also do it, so mum's passed it down. It's funny listening to the kids talk in their sleep because usually it's something along the lines of "mom, mom, I want a drink" LOL

airasheila no she is not crazy or insane either, just a normal human being who has probably been alone a lot., but anyway a lot of very normal intelligent people often say things to themselves .so if you never do fine but do not think for one moment that your colleague is looney tunes as she really is not. Have you not ever even once talked to yourself?

Yes I talk to myself all the time. Of course now my conversations consist of Why did I come in here or now where did I put that? Its OK to talk to yourself and its even OK to answer your self its when you interrupt yourself that you may have a problem. When you hear her talking and its not to you just ignore it.

Just thought I add that some time verbalizing a thought make it easy to understand or lets you know how it sounds to other people.

It really depends. I rarely talk to myself, but there are times I do. Specifically, one time is when I write something. I tend to write out long pages of response. In order to check for logic, grammar, and spelling, I will speak out loud my posts before posting them. This helps me catch errors. (this one is too short, so no I did not this time) The second time is when I am trying to think though some problem. I will talk out the issue to myself, in order to think through it. This helps to come up with a better answer to whatever problem. If it makes sense to me when I hear it, then I know I have a good answer.

Yes I am guilty of talking to myself. Usually I am alone when I do it. Doing it in public is strange, but it does not mean that the person is mental. Your colleague may not be aware that it is audible. Sometimes people talk aloud on purpose, so that they will be heard. Talking aloud is often used as a tool to enhance a learning process. Otherwise, strange words or mumbling might be cause for concern and keeping your distance. Its normal to talk to yourself, as long as the conversation makes sense. It is not okay to disturb others with loud one-sided conversations.

I used to have cats and I would talk to myself, but if anyone overheard me I would say I was talking to the cats. I tried not to do it when anyone else was around, and I live alone, so it isn't that hard. I went to stay at a friend's one time, and in the morning I heard her in the kitchen talking and talking. I couldn't figure out who she was talking to, and I didn't hear anyone answer, so I thought she must have been on the phone. It turns out she was talking to herself.

It is normal to talk to yourself. It is a way of a coping mechanism or somebody's way of solving problems. But only be careful where you can talk to yourself loud. My friends also called me an addict because I was talking to myself once. And I did it because I was preparing for my report for school. People may think you are crazy because crazy people also do this.

I have the experience myself. When I was in trouble or in a bad mood, I soothed myself in that way. In a period of time, I feel the good effection of this kind of speaking-to-myself way. It is a method of encouragement to me. I have a reasonble explaination to the good effection called "psychological suggestion". The differience is that I speak it out.LOL. With time,I gradually changed this habit and controlled myself to say it in my heart insteading speaking out. It has been real "psychological suggestion". As for your colleague, you just regard it as a personal habit and treat her normal. If necessary, you can give her a hint or express your thought indirectly. Hope it can help you.

This is common. It doesnt mean she is crazy or anything it's just something she may do that she can't help. I do it. I don't really call it talking to your self more like thinking out loud, my mother has always told me it is ok to talk to yourself just don't answer your self.

Some times, when a problem at hand needs intense thinking, people do talk loud to themselves. After all we do talk to ourselves continuously; only you do not do it loud. Some situations like noisy surrounding, very urgent need for some concrete action etc., can lead people to talk to themselves. No harm in that and people could still be normal, despite this talk to oneself

We believe that when someone is talking to himself we assume they have loose screw in their head. But on the other hand there are people talk to themselves to further evaluation of themselves on something. Like a friend of mine, he is always talking to himself for him to remember all the things he must not forget.

Sometime I just say something loudly to myself at home when I am annoyed or stressed. Luckily it happens at home. But as my was telling me one day in her research institute every tenth person talks to self (it sounds a bit exaggerated number). She also adds its not just the researchers but the staffs also.

Hiya airas, Only if I have banged up my arm or elbow then I can say a few words out loud. Or if I slip in the Snow and get wet through (grin). My thoughts are usually the way I "talk" but not out loud. Or sometimes if someone leaves something in my way in the Dark and I nearly fall over it.

Even as a child i was one of those people you would often find tslking to themselves. I used to say it was because i was the only person that really listened to me. Sometimes I just like to think out loud if that leaves me talking to myself, i can find enjoyment in it.

Ever since I was a kid, I've been talking to myself out loud and sometimes, I would even answer myself, with added voice change, as if I really was talking to somebody. My mum laughed so much when she caught me talking to myself one day and she pretty much told everyone about it. Nowadays, I only talk loudly to myself when I'm bored so that I could at least do something instead of sitting down and doing nothing. My friends who got the chance to hear me talking to myself told me that they find it entertaining and that it takes away the boredom. When I'm talking to myself out loud, often times I don't even remember what I have said since I don't really think of what I'm going to say. That's why when somebody answers me, I have to ask them what I've said just now since I really don't remember. XD

yes, a lot of times i do this talking to myself. not that i don't have somebody to talk to but i was just used to think out loud which would turn out to be talking to myself. When i need to decide on something or when i'm replying to a message i sort of say out loud my question for myself to make decision. It's a little weird for others but that's how it works for me, like i'm talking to a different person asking for her opinion but actually just asking myself back.
