How do you feel about having a real photo of you on Facebook?

My cousin from Japan saw my avatar on Facebook.com. It is an avatar of a flower. She told me to put a real photo of me up on Facebook. I wrote her back and told her that I don't place any photos of me on Facebook. I know that having a flower of me, looks strange, but I prefer to remain inclusive and private on Facebook. I don't have a problem about putting a real photo of me onto Facebook. I just don't want to take any chances about placing a real photo of me up. Am I silly for not putting a real photo of me up on Facebook? Many people that I am friends with already know exactly how I look. They are my family members and good friends. I am friends with two females that I don't even know. If I was to put a real photo of me on Facebook, it would be an attractive picture. I have nothing to be ashamed of.

I do have a real photo of myself on Facebook and here and other places. But I don't have any problem with people who don't want to post their photo.

In effort not to repeat your response I just want to add I have several profile real pics of me there and many other places. I also have avatars and I change them depending on my mood. So I also do not have a problem either with people not wanting to post their picture, in fact I do not believe I have ever asked why not.

In some places I do use my real photos and in some places I don't. I think its completely a personal choice. I don't mind if someone does not want to use their own picture. But some people are curious to know (in case of online friends) at some time how the other person look.

Hi, cream. I have my real photo in facebook though there are times where I put a picture of a cartoon character or a celebrity or a photo where I have an emotional connection. Placing your real photo in Facebook can also help reconnect you with some long lost friends. So i think you should put your real photo. It's the representation of you. Cheers!

That is your right not to put a photo up of yourself if you don't want to. A lot of people don't. I have pictures of myself on mine, but I also have all my photo settings set to Friends Only...so only the people on my friendlist can view my photos. And since I know everyone on my FB page I'm not worried about having my photos up! :)

I have posted a real photo of mine on Facebook and I worry nothing about it. I love to post pictures there in order for my family and friends to be updated about how I am doing recently. It's okay and I respect your choice to be private. But I would suggest to post pictures of you there. besides, you can customize those people who can only view your photos.. You can modify those privacy settings. So, let it be only accessible to your family and friends if you want.

my FB avatar - A cute pink avatar that expresses my individuality.
I am not comfortable putting up a picture on Facebook. I don't need a bunch of strangers gawking at my picture and passing judgment. I do not think I am photogenic. I am not butt ugly but am kind of cute, if people at work are to be trusted. I prefer to use an avatar that represents my personality and likes. It is totally up to the individual what they are comfortable with posting on line.

I have an old picture of me on facebook.....not a very flattering one to boot...but I agree. If you don't want a picture up don't.....anyone can see it. Today this lady told me that she was checking my wall all the time etc. I guess since I don't go digging on anyone else's I did really understand why she was on mine....nosey maybe.....but don't if you don't feel comfortable!

I think it is a preference thing and I have friends who don't put up their picture and I have no problem with it. In face, I started out on MySpace and it took me a while to put my picture up because personally I don't like how I look in pictures and only a very selective few make it online..lol Then you have ones that take great pictures and are always putting their pictures up...Not that I am against either way, just I would like every picture taken of me look that good..lol

As you can tell by my avatar, I don't mind putting my real picture up. It doesn't bother me, it's still a pretty closed site and if you set your privacy setting right it wouldn't matter too much anyway.

I also place multiple pictures on facebook also. Mainly because its a way i can share my thoughts among friends. I know it is possible that someone can grab my picture. But why me out of the millions of people who use facebook.

I have my real photo up on Facebook, but that's the only place I'll do it! I won't do it on myLot or anywhere else (I like to stay anonymous as much as possible). I am more relaxed about things on Facebook . . . everyone knows me there, and I am more comfortable posting my personal pics because of that. I think it's a personal choice . . . I have some friends who also do not post photos of themselves - and that's fine. The only time I wish it wasn't a non-face is when I'm searching for someone and I can't see them to confirm it's them. Your flower avatar is always nice here!

The only place I put real pictures of myself is Facebook. There are so many privacy settings that I feel find about it. I say you should put at least one picture.

no your not silly, you just want to keep yourself private that's all. Matter of fact its not just you who don't put their real photo, a lot wont use their real photos they even sometimes put some actors and actresses photo's..As for me,I'm using my real photo just so my friends and family can easily find me, sometimes when you search by name a lot will appear and can only be recognized by the photo..

Its up to you though if you want to put pictures on any of the sites. But facebook is more personal and social. . . I guess the main purpose of that community is let you connect to the people you used to know, such as your family and friends, specially if they are living in distant places. I also found facebook helpful. . . And when you are searching people, putting your real photo is a big help because there are intances that such search result would give you more people with similar names, so your friend or family would just identify you thru face. . . . . . God bless and happy mylotting!

No well I do see that you do not want to put a picture of you up, but that is ok you are just being careful. I don't have a facebook, but I do have a myspace and I have posted a picture of me because I feel safe about it and yeah I never go anywhere alone so that's that. It really depends on how you feel about it if you don't feel safe of putting one up then don't.

u see here is the thing. u never go meet someone online by urself. i have done it a couple times but ive always went wity someone. next, what u do is ur business why should it matter to someone else if u dont want to have a photo dont post it. i generally use myspace for photos and face book for conversation. myspace has options to where certain people can be the only ones to see ur photo and its not just set for ur profile like facebook.

I don't have a problem with my photo being on Facebook except I don't take good pictures. Most of my friends have their photos on the site and when I get a good picture, I'll put that up too. Not only do I have pictures up, but I have film of me and friends there.

Hi cream87!. I put my picture in my Facebook because I only approve my friend and relative. I never add a stranger to my friend list so as you can guest number of my friend not much if compared to others. I had many of my friend not use their picture as their avatar for many reason. I don't mind if they used they real name. I had a friend who not use his picture and change his name, at first he ask me to be friend I decline because I don't feel knowing this guy, until he PM me describe who he is.

In my opinion, it's okay to post personal and real pics of an account user on Facebook. And I think it's fun that everyone from our friend's list can view our pics and then comment about anything and everything. In that way, we get to communicate with them and talk about anything under the sun.. Actually I just finished uploading new pics of me and my family on Facebook so that I can share them to my friends and relatives.. It's not about everybody on the list already knows exactly the way we look.. But of course it's fun being updated on them, and you to them.. So why not try.. Regards cream!
