I got another job offer today but I am so confused of what to do, for one it it so much closer to home the pay is about the same but it is some people I have worked with before and they don't take taxes out. I am weighing all options but I can't seem to make up my mind I Am not really happy where I am now but they do take taxes out actually the one closer to home has like everyday cash bonuses and weekly pay, and I felt like I was at home when I walked in for the interview today but I have also got used to where I am as wellI am lost what would you do?

Do the right thing! In prison you might not be able to spend the extra money. Life is more than just money. You want to be able to sleep at night? You don't want to always be watching your back? It's going to be very embarrassing when they come to get you to take to prison.

If they don't collect taxes and they pay cash, isn't that illegal? It is here. Sorry if I misunderstood.

No! it's not illegal because they tell you and you fill out different tax forms. They're called 1099s. You are really an independant contractor for the company rather than an employee. believe me, nobody goes to prison.

Hi there, One thing that I think I'd have a problem with is the fact that they don't take taxes out. That means you have to be diligent in taking them out and setting them aside yourself. I would not be good with that one at all, I don't think. Then again, working closer to home and saving on gas is a good thing. The fact that you know the people and are comfortable with them is also a big plus. You also say that you are not really happy where you are now. The only negative I see here and it isn't all that negative would be the part about the taxes. I think that if I were you I would set up a savings account where I could deposit a set amount each week to make sure that I had the money when tax time came and then take the new job. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

The tax thing doesn't really bother me because I am paying now and will be for a while but I don't mind I would rather be happy and closer to home and around people I have worked with and know that would never get treated like I have been treated like at this place which is awful!!

It sounds like the job that you are being offered is slightly better than the job that you have now. You should take the job that you are being offered.

you should go for the one you feel at ease with. Your happiness is paramount. I dont understand what you meant by they dont deduct taxes cos everybody ought to pay tax. Weigh your options carefully.

I agree with several of the psters Write a pro's and con's list. Listing how you feel about paying your own quarterly taxes? any benefits? insurance? long term? happy? commute? compare the pay of your job offer with the one you have now w/ taxes being taken out? What does your spouse think? I love WEEKLY pay! Though I'm like you as well, I don't like change and will stick a job out til I can't stand being there any more. Especially since I like my routine, and I like knowing how to do my job... it's getting used to the new routines and duties that I have a hard time with.

I don't mind the change because at first this man that hired me was okay but the other day me and a co worker were just looking to see if our appointments went through the day before and he the owner came out of the office and blew up at us and said if you 2 have something to fin say say it to my face and he was flinching his fist and turning red and told us not to talk behind his back and we were not even talking about him!!! I find that wrong!!!

you clearly mentioned that you are note enjoying the present job, that itself shows the inclination on your opinion. For me life is all about enjoying and earning. when you have both at the new work place what are you still thinking about. my be you have to travel few extra miles daily, but i would think its OK if you are happy with what you are doing. All the best. I wish you would take the right decision.

You should write up a pros and cons list for staying at your current job and for taking the new job. Pros for staying: taxes are taken out for you, you're used to it. Cons for staying: farther from home-longer commute, not really happy. Pros for new job:closer to home, you already know some of your co-workers, cash bonuses, weekly pay, felt at home. Cons for new job: they don't take taxes out for you. In regards to the taxes, if they don't take out taxes, you can do it yourself--make sure you keep all pay stubs. There are softwares available that can help you. I've helped friends with this kind of stuff before and it's not very difficult once you get the hang of it. You can always figure out your taxes, but happiness is much harder to attain.

It is not just about the pay because you need to be happy in a job and it’s not the worth the change if you won’t be. No one can really make the decision for you. I would listen to my instincts leaving all options like pay, distance etc. out of it, meditate on your what your gut instinct is telling you and go with that, because I find that intuition is rarely wrong. Another more practical option is to make a list of the pros and cons of both situation and take it from there. Good luck!

Well I have all weekend to think about it and if you read the comment below I commented to you will know why my options are heading towards taking the job, and I always pay my taxes and am still paying on them.So really I don't really care but I care of the way the other owner of where I am is treating us. I think it is awful!!!

being used to something is not equivalent to being happy. go where your heart is. whatever makes you happy will lead you to a more fruitful one.

If I were you, I would change my job because like you said the new job has more advantage than the old one. And I think working in new environment will help you to have more friends and meet new people. Anyway this is just my opinion.

The pay would have to be much much more for me. Remember a couple of things. When trhey don't take taxes out, not only do you do your taxes at the end of the year, every quarter you have to do an "estimated tax." figure about how taxes would have been taken out and actually write a check to the IRS. Also, where you work now, do you have insurance? if so, you'll have to get youor own. you can do COBRA but that can get expensive. Also you are not contributing to unemployment so if something does happen, you may not be able to collect unemployment. You might be able to make arrangments, maybe if you do anestimated tax for state taxes, some of that would go to unemployment, I'm not sure. I would stay where I'm at for now. And if you're really unhappy where you're at, look for something else. But try to avoid those kind of jobs.

Do what you think is best and good for you. Go for the job that is heavier since you are already weighing it.. Choose whatever you think is where you can be most happy with and ask for guidance to the Lord to help you choose the right job. Good luck and happy myLotting :)

You have already weighed the probabilities between the two jobs. The only thing you have to consider is long term friend as an independent contractor you will pay your own taxes and make sure you keep good records for expenses related to taxable write-offs. From your discussion you did not mention if this is what you would like to do long term, nor if the loss of employee benefits was a factor. I can see the confusion but I would consider the job with the least expense. However, you have to be happy as if you are not then you end miserable in the end. So best thing is to write up a list for both pointing out all the pros and cons and this may be a better picture to help decide which route to go. Remember that the economy is not so strong no matter where one lives today, so think about the consequence of things not working out as an independent contractor you have no employee benefits. Good Luck and be blessed.
