"The Ground Zero Mosque"

I'm British. I'm struggling to understand why the Ground Zero Mosque has become such a huge issue in America. If it offends you, please explain why. Many thanks in advance.

I'm an American, and I'm not even sure of the reason why it's a big issue. My theory is that people feel offended that a house of worship for Muslims is being built so close to the site where thousands were killed in a Muslim terrorist attack. Personally, I believe that no group be it a race, religion, culture, or nation, should be held accountable for the actions of just a few members. They can build a Mosque there and no one should be giving them any grief about it.

Yeh, I agree. Do you think it's being exploited for political gain? By the right (Tea Party et. al), primarily. But do Liberals gain too by making the issue a polarising diving line. It might just help to turn out the core vote? I mean, it's not like Liberals are really going to rally because of a few snaps of the First family on a [no-longer] oily beach...

I do think it's being exploited for political gain, and I don't like it. These really aren't the kinds of issues we should be focusing on right now.

What do you think are the more pressing issues? The economy, jobs?
