I buy a lot of books mainly from the second hand dealers by the street side or the pavements. It is much cheaper though one has to be careful because sometimes we get to see a few pages missing and the print and page quality can be bad. I love to read just about anything and everything. Just now I am reading a book called ' Final verdict ' by Adella Rogers, a very interesting book on father-daughter relationship. My favorite authors include Robert ludlum, Irving wallace, Frederick Forsythe, Agatha Christie, John Grisham also some Indian authors like Vikram Seth and Sagarika Ghose Please share your views and likes..

I'm like you. I don't buy books new. I will , however, invest in a book that I might look things up in later on. Novels I only read once. I do have a few natural remedy books and my yoga and macrame books.I don't see the need to buy books new when I can't afford them when the library is free and most books would just sit on the shelf collecting dust.

Hi sid, I am sorry to have overlooked your response...thank you so much for your views I agree that when you can borrow from a library, then there is no need to buy books. In my town , I find that many of the libraries that I used to be a member of , have closed down because there are not enough members.Reading books and buying books is becoming outdated now - all the best and have a nice day

Hi Kiran! I used to buy romance books and Tamil books for myself. Many of them were second hand but I buy some new ones also. But generally, we buy new books and my son has a huge collection of all the P.G.Wodehouse novels, Alistair Maclaine, Agatha CHristie etc.THey are all new. In fact, all his books from his junior classes are new because they are more longlasting.I used to read fairy tales, and mythology too. My personal favourites are Mills and Boon,Tamil historical and certain other novels, best sellers of Sidney Sheldon and Jeffrey Archer and P.G.Wodehouse.I do not read science fiction or war stories.Generally we are crazy about books and the movers and packers looked at us strangely when we packed a total of some 35 cartons of which more than 16 were full of books when we relocated.I too cannot live without reading and I find reading more relaxing than any other activity be it T.V. or internet..

It is the same in my household, the children are all voracious readers kala, they love to buy books and read .My daughter when she comes for a holiday to India buys plenty of books to take back to read in her leisure time.My son is another who loves books of any kind, especially books on world war and other such heavy stuff. I guess the packers would be wondering why some people pay and carry such stuff around instead of dumping it...Once we develop the reading habit, there is absolutely no boredom right kala? is the festivity over? have a nice evening kala

i typically dont read fiction because i am pretty busy and i am a history fanatic, so the books i read are generally historical. i like to read about the little guy who got caught up in an event in history. (ie: someone that was on the Titanic or a soldiers recount of a war he was in).

Hi SomeCowgirl, thanks a lot for your response there have been many Indian authors writing fiction in the earlier days , but they were not heard of. Now after a few of them won the bookers awards like Vikram Seth,Adiga and Rushdie, there is more interest in them and their work has become popular - all the best and happy mylotting

I used to buy books all the time from big book stores and then realized, though it's helping the author, it's hurting my wallet, so I started going to flea markets, yard sales and second hand stores to buy books. On top of buying from those places, I use my library regularly. I love to read and can read anything from history to the back of cereal boxes, lol. I like Debbie Macomber, Fern Michaels, Sandra Brown, Anne George, Fannie Flagg, Jackie Collins, Mary Kay Andrews, Nora Roberts, Jennifer Crusie, Bob Mayer, and my list could go on and on. I enjoy reading and getting lost in the book, and for the most part once I start reading a book, I can't put it down until I've read it all.

To be honest I don't actually BUY many books but I do read loads and loads of them!! Where I live we are all avid readers and all have friends and families who are so we all pass our books around and have a constant stream of new books to read all teh time. I also use the public library a lot, when I DO buy books it is generally from a charity shop. As for favoutrite authors I have so many and enjoy so many genre of books - I love Daphne Du MAurier books, and despite having read them all often go back and read them again - especially Rebecca, I love all the classics lime Hardy, Dickens, the Brontes etc, I really enjoy Harlan Coben thriller books - they are excellent, in fact there are very few books that I do NOT enjoy!! Happy reading!!

Her books are grand ..will note down the names of the other authors you mentioned and thanks a lot for the feedback - enjoy your evening and all the best

i am also like you.. i prefer any books as long as it is interesting and enjoyable to read.. but i do prefer the detective novel type of novels.. one that is such is like the lincoln lawyer by michael connelly who is incidentally also my favorite author.. i also have another author that is good this kind of genre and his name is nishio ishin.. i really recommend his books to you.. but as you can see, he is japanese and thus his books are all in japanese.. so books that are in english are rather limited..

Hi Kiran, I love to read too. I never buy books though. I get all my books from the library. Not only is it free but I am afraid that books are going to be a thing of the past. I do also pick up a few books at the thrift store or at yardsales just to keep on hand...just in case. I have to have a good book going....always. I don't have a favorite author. I like so many of them and so much of what I read depends on my mood of the moment...like my music tastes. Currently, I am reading Time in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks. It's good but easy reading. Prior to this I read the "Clan of the Cave bear" series that was amazing. I like all sorts of of books and different authors. It would be easier to tell you what I don't like. I could not and won't read the harlequin novels which are cheap generic love stories from the 70's...my mom was a big fan. And this one will probably upset some because I know she is very popular. Danielle Steele....I really think she is over-rated. I read one or two of her early books and thought she was pretty good but as time went on...not so much.

Hi sid, thanks a lot for your views I have heard a lot about Nicholas Sparks...I am not a great fan of Danielle steele either, read a few and gave up.I see that many libraries here are folding up because of the lack of response and readership. I think we need to carefully inculcate the reading habit in youngsters before it is too late - all the best and enjoy your evening

I really enjoy reading. I always have. My husband and I will occasionally buy books, as we both enjoy reading and such. It's nice to get new books from time to time. We don't always get books, as we can't always afford to get anything new. But when we can, we like to maybe get one or two new books.

Yes. I am also regular reader of books and I love reading because it is not only a diversion from regular work but also entertaining. In fact I read a lot.As I was student of history I like reading books on history. They are the stories of people who lived in flesh and blood at the material time and lived at a time when there was no scientific advancement. They lived a hard life without present day comforts.Secondly I love reading detective fiction. Here there is thrill besides enjoyment. In my younger days I used to read every novel of Agatha Christi or Earl Stanley Gardner.Agatha Christi was perhaps the first English lady to write detective fiction. I would like to read her novels for a second or third time if possible .In the novels of Earl Stanley Gardner.. half of the book is court scene which are interesting. Of present I immensely like novels by John Grisham. He is a wonderful writer. I do not miss any of his novels. In fact I am his fan.....

Reading remains to be an active means to learn. Although a lot of information can be easily heard from TV and radio, or search over the internet, we cannot deny the effectiveness of reading. However, books are quite expensive so many cannot afford to buy one or two. What is most cost effective now is reading through internet sites or having an access to e-books.
