Toilet Phobia???

Critters in Toilet - Rodents Snakes etc.

Do you check your toilet for critters before you sit down to use it? This is a habit I have always done since I was a little girl. Reason was my grandmother once nearly sat on a toilet that had a big fat rat coming up into the toilet bowl and got wedged. If she hadn't of noticed that little critter, it would have clamped onto her butt. I currently live close to the water. Its a known fact the closer you live to the water the more likely you will have a rodent problem. We have mice(I think) I can here them, scamper when its quiet, or when they are climbing out of the heaters, holes etc. I Check the toilet often, and flush to be sure. Is there something wrong with me? Do I have some strange toilet phobia?

Thank you Cookiebear, I shall never use the toilet again that I will not think of this and therefore have to check!! O.O Not really, just being silly, LOL. I often check as well, and I know my little sister does still, lol. I was just being a silly kid once and scared my little sister while watching Jaws, told her to be careful he wasn't in the toilet to bite her butt. My father made me accompany her to the toilet for days after that, LOL. I never did anything like that again!! . But I think others are right, you do not have a phobia of toilets, critters, maybe. ;)

I do not feel you have a phobia you are just being cautious. It is a normal reaction to always look at the bowl before we use it. There are those who unkindly do not flush and or clean up after themselves properly. I think that this is a normal reaction. I would imagine that one who does not look at the bowel prior to using it would be un normal in my opinion.

yes i would say you are just cautious because of what had happened before, surely you would not want it to happen to you

Keeping the toilet closed with the Lid is a must. I also ensure that the toilet is cleaned after use by every one, using the toilet. Flushing , some times, is not effective. Always keep a brush and cleaning liquid in the toilet with and ensure the toilet is clean and tidy before coming out. When we enter the toilet next time, it should be dry and clean

That is very good practice my five year old, never bothers to lift the seat. There's just the two of us and I don't think he understands that Mommy has to sit!

Everytime, the toilet must be well checked up just before using it. Not only for rats but also for other injurious insects and sanity also. It is not a phobia with you, but it is a good habit no doubt! I also take a view to find the safety and cleanliness. Thanks for this good posting and be sure, safety begins from home only!!

Very well said that is so very true. Toilets can be as dangerous as walking around outside. You never know when somethings going to happen or what you might run into.

Well I do check it before sitting there and doing my thing. Also don't want critters crawling to me when I sit there. What also contributed to it is watching 'Snakes on a Plane' .. Sometimes I just shiver and suddenly think if there's a snakey on my toilet.

Oh I am the same way, and if I am in the bath I am constantly looking making sure there is nothing around that will creep me out. It's funny spiders don't bother me much or other bugs or frogs its basically rodents and snakes. I believe its because both times I had "friends" chase me with them.

If you're wondering if you have this strange toilet phobia, well, I don't think that you have this kind of phobia. Coz basically, you don't fear the toilet, but the critters itself!.. :)

Oh! So does that mean I fear critters who lurk in small dark places?

Well phobia is just a psychological problem in that people are usually afraid of something. For you, you are just merely double-checking your toilet and there's nothing wrong with you! Be rest assured!

Thanks I was so worried there was something wrong, paranoia or something! Its good to know that people think this behavior rather a normal everyday thing.

I don't think you have phobia, you are just trying to be cautious not to be bitten by this critter. Because, phobia has psychological connotation and I don't think you reach this stage. Premature to assume!

Maybe its not the toilet I have a phobia of though... When I was a teenager, we were camping in a trailer there were rodents and I put my hat on a hoodie, wrapped feet and put socks on hands. Maybe I got a phobia of rodents.

well of course not,you are just being cautious,so you wont sit on anything bad hehe, just like myself,i always try to see if someone splitted on the vase, and if its not wet for some reason,i would really hate it hehe or if its dirty too,or have ants,or something. Some toilets can be really nasty

So true, I find a lot of the public toilets are just down right nasty! No idea what kind of people use these or if they trash them on purpose. I have gone in them with toilet paper laced everywhere, and poop on the outside of the seat and bowl...I refuse to use public rest rooms most times.
