I think sports is not totally about winning, it is also about friendship, participating, teamwork as well as communication. Winning is important because it proves your hard work. However it is not the most important thing. This is why we should not cheat in the games.

Actually Sport has a Sport is for winning and taking the World Cup! But it ain't healthy and nasty. Game and Play are much better, there you can have all what you said: friendship, participating, teamwork, communication and the best of it FUN with no strong feeling for winning

Jawaharlal Nehru, ex Prime Minister of India once famously stated that it is not important to win, but more important to participate in sports. So yes sports is not always about winning. But these days people give so much more emphasis on winning that this whole sporting spirit goes down the drain. At times sports person resort to cheating to win matches which for me is really the dumps!! If you can't win fair and square you are not good enough. I agree with you it is all about team work and communication and that is why I hope more and more schools make it mandatory for children to play some sports as it helps them develop better. Cheers! Well it depends Sports usually is for fun, diversions (from a day of activity), or stress reliever. Like basketball. many like the sport because though it is physical but generally fun for everyone, and is a stress reliever. But if you are doing it proffessionally or on that direction (like a dream or something). Winning is the most vital in sport. Because it is a gauge for you and something that you really work hard for. good day angel

Its not only about winning, its about how far you can get in training the sport you're actually interested at. Sports should be a hobby and should be enjoyed for one's pleasure, not for the sake of just medals and trophies. And hey, it actually helps in improving your health too :)
