Please give your thoughts about this phrase "experience is the best teacher!" Is it really necessary to have first hand experience on things for you to easily learn from it?

Hi Abish, As a trainer myself for over 16 years now, I do feel that Experience is the best teacher. Ok. You start reading and learning from experiences of others during school and college days. Do you remember all of that? I think Not. Why ? Just because you were fed those things into you. Nothing more. But as you grow and start experiencing things, these memories stay longer with you. You learn from your own mistakes and improve on them and try not to repeat those mistakes. Life is the best teacher and it trains you by subjecting you to things so that the experience you gain stays with you. Cheers, Sids

Sids, hi! thank you for reminding me with that. So you're also a teacher? Me too! It's a calling being a teacher and it's a noblest job. I've encountered a lot of things which really need a first hand experience and I could attest that those I've gone through would be easier to remember compared to the things which I haven't try doing.

It doesn't necessarily mean that way but most of the time yes you should learn for yourself or else you'll be repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

Yes you got that right. We don't have to literally follow what that statement says. It may mean that whatever happens your way, take it as an experience in life and learn from it.

But there are things that we should learn from an experience right? What do you think about those people who are afraid to enter on serious relationship? They are afraid to fall in love and to be hurt.

In my place anyone could be employ even one have no enough experience if you ever heard about nepotism hiring a relatives or friend because of an influential person especially those who hold a higher position in the government as backer. So it not probably of what you know bit whom you know that is the most frequent happening in my place. Though it even hard to have an experience if no one would hire you. But so far having an experience add confidence and one could not be ashamed to apply or seek work anywhere if one have knowledge so for me having an experience is an advantages. just so happen it does not totally apply in my place because of the widespread of nepotism.

I have some doubts on those candidates who tried to put themselves on a position with the help of some relatives who's with authority on the office. They shouldn't do such because you can't prove how deserving they are on that job if they wouldn't sweat a lot to have the job. Better kick those bad guys!Thanks...

Oh yes! In fact, experience is the best and the most expensive teacher! I so say this because i have invested money with a friend and then he ran away with my money! Ouchie! I learned my lesson. One must learn not to get hung up with getting quick money because the faster it comes, the faster it blows off. I must admit i had been greedy because all i thought of back then was to get higher income fast. And second, dont entrust money to someone just because he is your friend.

Thank you for the warning! so sad because you treated that person as a friend and you gave your trust but after all she will pay you dishonesty. Just pray for her, maybe there's also a big reason why. God knows everything just pray for it.

Experience gives me wisdom and understanding. Without it I could not hold firm and many of my decisions. However I also believe there is a first time for everything as without the first time how can we consider it experience. When we experience events in life we know what is right from wrong and how to proceed.

You said that experience gives us Wisdom, you made it right in some points. Wisdom is actually a combination of knowledge and application. What you learn from that experience would help you draw closer to the nearest solution in whatever problem that you might encounter. Thank you!

I agree with that phrase. We all learn from school, from books to the internet. We have good professors with great experiences. If we don't experience things around us personally we may not take it seriously. We all have mistakes, mistake is one of the best experience we can have in life and we also learn how to stand up to make a difference.

Ellyse thank you for the response! There's a better retention of knowledge if you have experience such things and just like one of the philosophers who said the Learning by experience is better than any books!

I believe it. There are many elements in our life that cannot be learned from school or college. Love, courage, fear, we have to learn all of those through experience. We know and understand because we experience it. You can understand other people because you are blending with them. We know brokenheart because we experience it.

I believe that experience is the best teacher.Your experiences teach you lessons which you are unlikely to forget.I feel more than text book definitions one is likely to learn more from experience. There are experiences positive or negative which mold us into what we are today.

i would say it is one of the best teacher in our life.experience itself has wider and several meanings.it is not necessary something you should do by hand or act, it could be something you hear, think, feel and many more.so if you know that if that thing is good or not for you it means that you have an experience- in any form perhaps you heard or read it somewhere-that will affect your decision.

I believe we can learn from others experience also.In life its not necessary to have bad experiences we can learn from others bad experiences as well.We must learn to work hard by experiencing hard work but its not necessary that hardships are to be experienced first hand .There are many people around us from whom we can learn a lot.I believe god should do justice to everyone. Those who are experiencing success should be shown failure as well so that they become strong and down to earth and those who have always failed must get the experience of success as well so that they also feel the happiness and pride of being successful.
