My cell phone drowned!!!

I found my phone in the bathroom sink this morning covered with water!! OMG! I have no idea what happened, but it wasn't there earlier. It had been sitting on the side of the sink. One of the cats must have knocked it into the sink that my daughter had put water in for her cat to drink. GRRRRRR!!! My phone is right now dismantled and sitting in a container of uncooked rice in the hopes that the rice will absorb all the moisture in the phone and save me from having to change phones again. We managed to save my daughter's Zune that way a while back after she dropped it into the toilet. I went online and found the rice suggestion for cell phones. We tried it on the Zune and it worked perfectly!! So, we are hoping that it will work for my Palm Pre, even though it actually is more computer than phone. But, it's too valuable to not even try! Don't you agree? Have you ever had to try something you'd never done before to keep from losing something valuable?

don't tell my roommate, but I dropped my iPhone in the toilet I grabbed it out and shook it really hard and dried it and while it had a problem holding a charge for about a week, it was all better soon...

LOL I think your secret's safe with me, Elic. But, seriously, if something ever happens like that again, try the rice idea. We saved my daughter's Zune (similar to iPod) using that very method. I'm hoping for the best with my phone.

REMOVE THE BATTERY & COVER IT IN RICE RIGHT AWAY!!!! I've never done this, but a really good friend did. Her grandson threw hers in the bath tub. I had sent her a link suggesting this just a few days before. She said she felt she had nothing to lose. So, she yanked the battery then grabbed a bowl with a lid, poured some rice in the bowl, put the phone in & covered the phone with rice. She snapped the lid on & left it there for 24 hours. When she took it out of the rice the next day & reinstalled the battery, it worked!!!! Saved her $400 to buy another phone like she had. I won't guarantee this, but what do you have to lose??? GOOD LUCK!!!

OOPS... In my haste to tell you how to save it, I didn't read your entire discussion!!! I'm sorry...you already know the rice solution. I truly hope this works for you!!!! My cordless phone just jumped in the toilet one day. The rice didn't save it, but that was probably my fault!!! My friend swears she has saved several phones with rice. I suggested she get rid of the grand son as he loves tossing phones in water!!!

Thanks, LM. I found that solution after Deb dropped her Zune into the toilet. She was so upset and didn't think there'd be any solution. When I saw that for saving cell phones, I knew we had to try it for her Zune. And, it worked!! So, that's what I'm doing for my phone. I'll know tomorrow afternoon if it worked for my phone. My fingers are crossed big time!!

I won't know until tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to wait a full 24 hours before testing it. In the meantime, we now have a landline that I can use if I get hard up to make a call. I don't even know our phone number, but I can call out!!

Good luck! Hope this works. Never really thought of covering the phone with rice, but it does make a lot of sense. We used to just air out the phone for weeks before using it. I can't help but wonder though, when you dried out the zune, did you cook and eat the rice after?

LOL I debated it since boiling the rice would eliminate any bacterial issues, but no - we threw it away and will throw this away as well. Rice is relatively cheap, and we don't eat it often.

Oh, dear! I recently dropped our GPS into the washer and gave it a good full cycle. When I was transferring the clothes to the dryer I saw what I had done. Hubby was quick on his feet and tried the rice method as well as putting it close to one of the dehumidifiers we have in the house. It still works...uh...except the touch screen :( and I never do things like that! So, yep, never thought I'd have to rice up a gadget but sure did recently!

My cellphone got wet before too. It was raining hard and it fell out of my pocket. When I got home, I dismantled it and placed it in front of the electric fan for HOURS! Luckily, it functioned the next day! I was so scared because I can't afford to buy another one!

Nor can I, although I have my old phone I can use if I end up having to. But, I've learned to love this one and have gotten spoiled by its extra features, so I'd really miss it if I had to go back to my LG Rumor.

hi jerzgirl my son tried that rice trick too and it did work. His problem is he sometimes takes his cellphone out in a restaurant , uses it, then the bus is due and he dashes out to catch it and forgets the cellphone.lol And he is an adult like now he is 51 for goodness sakes.maybe he needs to have some automatic thing on his cell phone that yells hey do not leave me.Maybe some genius will think of some sort of gadget that will warn him that he left his phone on a cafe table. he he

I can't remember the times when I tried something to save something valuable to me. When I'm about to lose something valuable, I'll think of various ways to save it and even think about the most extreme ways to do it.

Im really sorry for what happened, my cellphone got a virus spreading in it and it just stopped working and I can't even turn it on again! My cellphone was given to me by my Aunt last March 31 and I don't want it to be broken this early. I really hate it, and I think its because I sometimes connect it to the computer when I upload pictures and not knowing that the computer also has a virus!
