Assumption is our worst enemy

Hello friends, In real life we have to assume so many things. Some of these assumptions are necessary to hold the basic structure of our society. For example, a student studies hard with the assumption that he will get a good job after graduating. On the other hand, there are assumptions that increases our stress. As I've mentioned in one of my articles http://www.bukisa.com/articles/358158_assumption-is-our-worst-enemy these are the assumptions that we should avoid in our daily lives. For example, if one of your colleagues suddenly stops talking to you, you may assume that he or she is mad at you for some reason and may therefore sulk. The attitude of your colleague may also make you assume that the person is haughty and arrogant. But this may not be true. The case may be as well that your colleague has incurred some great loss quite recently, or he may have been cheated by his girlfriend and is having a really hard time coping up with the break up. Its not necessarily the negative interpretation that makes our life miserable. A positive assumption can lead to underestimation of a problem. A student may assume that as because he is usually strong in mathematics he will never have any problem in the coming semester. Now with this kind of positive assumption he may entirely neglect mathematics and be poorer than ever. Our assumptions must have strong logical foundations. If absolutely unavoidable, we must make assumptions with reasons and not with our sentiments. What do you think about assumptions? Do you have some? Do you think they can create problems? Thanks in advance for your response. God bless you.

I have finally understood that I have been my own enemy in life, by this I mean I normally am a very hard working go getter type of person, however when the chips are down I easily and always assume the worst about all outcomes. It is one of weakest flaws in life. However, this flaw has also worked toward some advantages as firstly I knowingly that I am going to be really hard on myself assume the worst outcomes and digress into a deep depressive stage, shortly after I can gather my thoughts I then strive really hard to work towards making changes and bettering my circumstances whole heartedly. I am the type of person that if unsure of things I will ask questions and get the right answers but again if the chips are down I will assume all sorts of bad situations. I am working on it but it has not been easy.

Hello, This is all very normal. But anything that is normal is ordinary too, aren't they. Now who wants to stay ordinary all his life? I believe, none. This is why a person like you and me keep working on ourselves rather than others. It is good to be self critical, but this can also reduce your self esteem. We need to limit ourselves to self evaluation and try our best to become overtly self critical. I think you should read this http://www.bukisa.com/articles/354958_how-to-analyze-your-own-mind The article is about how to analyze one's own mind. Though I think you are already good at it, I guess you'll enjoy it. Thanks for such a wonderful response. God bless you.

Hello biswa. To assume cannot only make your life miserable, it will get you into trouble as well. It seems most people in today's life just assume, me included. Never heard of asking before. TATA.

Yeah, saphy Sometimes I assume that you'll change your profile picture and you don't. Then you do it when I expected it the least. This profile picture is used up, you should change it now. I promise I'll change mine too.

When we assume things we can often be wrong. Sometimes it is hard to correct what we have assumed when angry words accompany the accusation. We would be wise to get all of the facts before assuming something. it just makes a life much easier.

Hello, Yes, its something that we'll always have to keep in our mind. We need to be alert so that we don't assume anything unreasonable. The amusing thing is that unfounded assumptions are said to be the worst enemy of detectives. There the consequence can be lot worse. They may carry out a biased investigation and end up in accusing the wrong guy. This often happens in our daily lives. We accuse, exchange angry words and then when we realize our own folly, all we could do is to repent. Thanks. God bless you.

Hi dear, You are standing under a mango tree and there a lots of mangos on the tree. You can easily pluck some of the mangos by just stretching you hand and you already got it. You need some more, to get it, you need to jump. You jumped and managed to pluck it. Some of them are still on higher level, you tried to get it with the help of a long wooden stick. You need more but all still higher on top of the trees? Hot to get it? Climb on the tree or use some stones to throw to aiming the mangos? Yes, you don’t know how to climb on the tree, no problem, you managed some stones and thrown to the mangoes and many more fell down. Yes, again, you managed to get a ladder, climbed on it, and still managed to get more mangoes. There comes somebody, he know how to climb on the tree and you gets his help and he manages to go to the top of the branches and with the wood stick, he managed to get all the mangoes which was on the tree. Still more are there on the tree. But you got sufficient mangos. Ok, let it be there someone else may require, I get what I want and thank to the friend who helped to get the mangos, and now it is the time to go, bye bye. Here there is something related to your assumption theory. Assumptions are just assumptions only not actual. We should not apply the life to the assumptions. Assumptions should remain as assumptions only. Assuming that you can get only the mangoes from your hand stretch, you will hardly get any mangos. If you leave the places assuming that I could pluck only where upto my hand was reached. But, you applied against the assumption by using various other means like jumping, stoning, using ladder, getting the help of the passer by, etc. So, beyond the assumption, you acted, you managed to get whatever you required. So, the assumption and the actual are different things and while applying our brains against the assumptions, we will really realize that we should over act upon assumption and move out of it. Then only we can see what is beyond the assumptions. In the class room taking a text book, the teacher says that ‘assume this a box and there is a rat inside’ – in fact, there is no box or there is no rat over there. But we can see the box and a rat inside the box also. But in reality, both are not there and we just visualize only. Still we can see it in the teachers’ hands. Identify the difference, you will reach where you want reach. I hope, my words are not a waste and will help you atlest 1%, and if it happened, I am satisfied. Regards, Thank-s

Hi dear, I missed the flight!!! The scheduled flight time was at 6:20 evening. I should be at the airport at least 1 hr. early, ie 5:20. So that I thought I will catch the train of 4:30. Assuming all these calculations, I left the home 30 mts. early to avoid last mts. hassles. I left home at 4, and got the rickshaw after waiting 10 as it was odd time. When I reached at the highway, there was some small accident and all the vehicles are moving slowly and I reach the station about 25 mts. late. I managed to get the ticked after 15 mts. in the Q and when I reach on the plat form, the train which was there also left. Waited for 17 mts and I got the next slow grain which took another 25 mts to reach the destination station. Now already late for 50 mts and I managed to get a tax to the air port. It is full of traffic on the road and the “municipal work is in progress” on the roads, another 25 mts. delay to reach the air port. Another walk of 10 mts. inside. On the counter, sir, you are more than 30 mts. too late to go inside, sorry, you cannot. Good, the culprit here was the ‘ASSUMPITONS’ who else? Regards, Thank-s

Oh yeah. Assumptions are a major problem. People assume that because I don't play sports then I'm "a bad person". Or, because I don't believe in God, then I'm "less than human". I think it's all foolish and people only assume things to make themselves feel good about insulting other people. I never want to assume things. I try hard not to, but for some people it doesn't work. I guess I can't be completely open minded and understand like I wish to, but it does mean something when you learn about something before you assume it's something else.

It really is. There is a saying that my friends and I have, it's really more of a joke, but it makes perfect sense when you look at it: "Never ASSUME because you are just making an A$$ out of U and ME." Now think about that for a minute. When you assume, you are pretty much saying that you think that you know what is going to happen, or you think that you know what that person is thinking. Never assume. KNOW. Ask that person what they are thinking? Ask when something has to be done? Make sure that you know what you need to know. Write it down, but never assume. Make sure and be positive that you know that information. Make sure that you know what that person is going to do. Always check and see to make sure that you really do know what is going on. Don't ever assume.

I remember a saying that my dad used when I was younger, it is so ingrained in my mind that I know that I will never forget it. That saying was "Assuming makes an a** out of you and me." Because of him teaching me this when I was young, I try to never make assumptions. I realize that there are times in our life that it is unavoidable to make an assumption. However, whenever it is something that I am able to avoid, I never assume.

I never assume anything. That is just asking for trouble to say the very least. A few times in the past, I have but I have learned my lessons. It never ends well and there are times where we don't have the information that is necessary to make an educated decision. Therefore, when we try to piece together any assumptions, we are very wrong. Extremely wrong to say the very least. So basically, get all of the facts people. Life doesn't have to be hard. It can be very simple. However, by making decisions when you do not have all of the facts, you are just going to make each and everything an agonizing and quite brutal situation. I think I have learned this lesson the hard way in the past and others have as well. Still, learning from our mistakes, grow, and assume absolutely nothing. The only assumption that is true is when you assume something, you're likely going to be very, very, wrong.

hi biswa, In daily life we have many assumptions regarding on the work we concentrate like "If we do like that, it will be easy", "If I do like that, it will be hard". But when it comes to assumption of different characters(people), I think we have to understand them first and start analysing the reasons as " why that character is behaving in such a way?/ why am I behaving like this?" If we understand the character clearly, I guess we all will be assuming different characters in positive and wright way, no negative assumptions any more. It's just about thinking of human brain in analysing the concept/issue.
