Creating friends at MyLot

I just joined MyLot this month, and surprisingly on my first day at MyLot I had 4 friend requests. I find it amazing, that some people would want to be friends with a newbie like me. I didn't add them immediately, but for just being polite, I added them eventually. So far, I haven't denied anybody yet. I also made a few friend requests for some people whose response caught my attention and all of them accepted it. I'm just curious, what are your considerations when you add a friend in your friend lists? How do you chose who you would want to be friends with? I know we have the choice to deny them but would that be rude or make us snob? Would denying them affect our reputation here in MyLot? I hope to hear from you guys.

Hi sweet pea welcome to mylot.. I dont deny anyone who requested but before I accept their request I just visit their profile and check the way they intract with people here.. If they are not spamers I add them.. but later if they start spaming then I will delete them from list..

I don't see any reason to deny anyone a friendship on MyLot. I haven't made any requests yet, but I have 10 friends who were kind enough to add me and I am really flattered. I don't think there should be any qualifications when adding friends, right? I mean, we're all equals and we're all here to put our opinions out there and get to know each other. :)

Great reply jypsyjulia I totally agree with your sentiments and feelings. We are all equal here. we should treat others and get treated from others as equals. The purpose of joining such forums, apart from making money, should be more for social intermingling free of all barriers like nationality, religion, status etc. and make this world better place to live in.

Hi sweet pea, I never ever deny any friend requests here or on any other site where I work. I have had some bad experience where when I was new and made some requests I was rudely denied after which I decided, never to deny anyone's friend requests....My only consideration is that , like me they too are members of this site - all the best and happy mylotting

Hi kiran8. It really feels bad when you're new and you get denied. But base on mylotters who shared in this thread, they have given me another perspective on why they deny some requests. Thanks for sharing!

Sweet-pea: I used to be very picky about who I added to my friends list, but now I've learned it suits me to have as many friends on here as will add me. It provides me a greater range of areas to write upon, and it also provides me with a great support network in the online world. I do not personally know everyone on my list but there are a few who notice when I'm gone and vice-versa. It pays to have friends on Mylot. Namaste-Anora

One of the reasons that a lot of people are here at mylot is to make friends. Some of the best friendships we can make here are with new mylotters. I wouldn't deny a friendship. The one i deny may just be the best friendship to make.

Welcome to mylot I have many friends here and i get so many friend requests daily, earlier i used to accept all blindly, but one thing i market, some with '0' in front of their name used to invite, as soon as i add, they will send me a pm, telling me to join this site or that, i hate this.. There was one extreme case, this member gave pm like that and deleted me after that I hate this action too I am not accepting friend request grom such members any more.. Thanks for sharing. Welcome always, cheers. Professor. .

I haven't received any PM at the moment requesting me to join any site, and I wish I wouldn't receive any in the future. But if I do, I'd just politely decline. Thanks professor for sharing!

Hi sweet_pea! Good question you have. I add friends who have responded to my discussions and those I think will likely be polite or simply have the same interests as mine.

That doesn't surprise me that a bunch immediately sent in friend requests as soon as you joined. Although you get a few here that just send out FR's in the hope of you joining whatever referral systems that they have, there are actually a bunch here looking for new friends in the hope of finding good source of interesting discussions. I do the same, although I have more than 50 pending FR's on my list, I wait until I get to know them through discussions before I accept them.

Hi sweetpea, Welcome to mylot! Usually I will accept anybody who send a friend request to me. Recently I had a new rule in place. I do not accept those with zero post. I have seen some with a (0) behind their username and have tons of friends listed on their profile. They did not make any post nor engage in any kind of activity. These are the ones I'm more cautious with and will put them on hold and reject after 1 week if the situation remains the same. I have sent out many requests when I read responses that I feel match with my thinking. I do not mind if people do not accept me or put me on hold, everybody can have their own criteria of choosing who to accept as a friend.

Adding more friends has a good advantage. In Mylot, you are not allowed to disclose personal information during your discussion. After adding you as a friend, then both of you have the right to send the messages. Any of your personal information can be disclosed among two of you.
