Have you tried interviewing a friend for a specific position at work? You first of all didn't have a choice to backout because you are part of the committee that decides. How did you manage the situation? Was your friend hired?

oh i think i have not interviewed a friend.. but i have had a lot of friends who joined the company i worked for when i have referred them to the company. my manager friends interviewed them (bypassing hr already hehe) and so they get hired faster than every one else.

hi ip no I have never been in that position but a friend and I were vying for the same move up job and she got the job due to office politics before hand, I overheard the boss and second in command saying they were going to hire myfriend even though five of us had applied so they had t o go t hrough the farce with us all. this did infuriate me as why interview anyone if they had already decided on my friend, I did not hold this against my friend as she had no idea what was going on,.

That's a sad reality. In our office politics exits too. Some internal job promotions are pre-determined. They just want to show everyone that they want to go through the due process, when in fact it's just a front.

Yes, I have but only once and it wasn't really a friend. Instead, it was my brother-in-law and the reason that I had some input in the situation was because I'd been doing the job for quite some time and I was the only one that really knew what was going on. He did end up getting the job for a variety of reasons, the main reason was that he knew what was going on with the project, however, it also helped that the two of us get along.

Yes several friends actually. For me it was not difficult as I utilize complete professionalism and reminded them that although we are friends that work has to come first. I suppose I was lucky as I have never had problems with friends at work after being hired.

That's nice to hear. I'm sure you're very good at showing a poker face when you conduct an interview.
