...it's scary stuff. You walk in there, you get out and suddenly everyone seems to look at you for that one momment like "What on earth do you think you're doing?" They may as well put up a sign at the door - "If you don't buy anything and pay for it, don't bother trying to get out."

Yes I have done that and not only once.. But I don't have that kind of guilty feeling because, for as long as I did not steal anything from the store, why should I feel awkward? I don't care about what they think if I go out without anything to buy at all.. I guess they just have to think of it this way: that maybe I didn't find anything I am looking for, or maybe I was just canvassing on the price.. You know something like that.. But for as long as you didn't do anything they shouldn't look at you that way.. And you shouldn't be conscious with their stares also...

In a way..yes..But the possibility of feeling awkward is too little.. Well that's for my own opinion.. I am not speaking in general though..

Hello T_Diamond, LOL, Yes. However, I look like "don't ask, don't tell" when I walk out. That is because if I walk in and walk it out, it means that they did not have what I wanted, I forgot my wallet, or the line was way too long (and I was in a hurry). Funny Observation. :)

I really don't like to shop (I know I'm not normal) However, when I go to the store and I do not see what I want, or at the price I want then I just leave without purchasing anything. That doesn't bother me a bit, because my money stays in my pocket where it should be lol!

i did it for most of the time, when i was trying to buy something important and i need to compare its quality and price. i believe we have the right to do that, we go to the shop looking for something but it doesn't mean that i have to buy thing from the shop. it should be normal.

it sounds like a threat to threaten me. i am a kinda person who likes to survey things first.if i don't feel to buy anything then i just get out of there.don't care about what others may thought about me. BTW i never saw a sign like that here.if i found one i won't ever like to come in there.

hmmm... haven't done that. but I actually went in the supermarket and just bought one item, one small item. I don't know what others are thinking and if they were actually looking, I was already telling myself "lol, you just went in to buy one item. forming a line for that item." sometimes i walk around too, see if there are free taste stalls hehe..

As long as you have a dazed look on your face, they'll let you out.

thats really funny and you are right. sometimes you cant even find a way out without going passed people in line at check out. i always just say loudly a couple times, "hhhmm! they didnt have it, wonder why?" maybe try that next time while shaking your head. lol.

Well, if they want to see freak show, let them be. I am the customer, I can choose buy or not buying stuff as I please. They probably don't have the item I am looking for, so I just don't want to buy anything from the supermarket at all.

We might encounter that in small supermarkets, and they give you really freaky looks. Bigger ones are ok, there are tons of people moving and we are more unnoticeable. If the alarm sounded, then it will be bad....it happened to my friend, she was chased by the security because the alarm went off after she left, she was searched through and they found nothing. She went out and again the alarm rang, they checked through her purchases again and nothing was found. This went on for a few rounds until they were finally convinced that she didn't try to steal anything. Stupid system!

Sometimes. But to be honest they are usually too busy. In smaller supermarkets you get inquisitive looks from staff where you have no choice but to exit via a checkout.
