Hilarious quote to sum up my night at work!

Have you ever heard of this quote? "A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." I heard this quote a couple of days ago and thought it was hilariously true to my work - and the work of others, too, I'm assuming. Yesterday, I had the wonderful experience of arguing with someone who was half an hour late while I was closing up shop here at the dry cleaners. I was actually about 4 seconds from calling the cops. He was arguing that because I was HERE, it should mean that I should take in his items, create more work for myself, and get out of work even later than I already was. At any rate - this quote totally did it for me, and now this is my official motto for working and dealing with late customers. Do you have a funny quote to describe some of the frustrations or outlooks you have while at work? And can you, in your job, relate at all to the quote I provided?

i cant remember from days of my work, but now im disabled and am trying to save all i can and my son is constantly wondering why i keep this or that if i dont need it right now. i save a lot of things he seems to think we will never need. but i always tell him what grandma used to say, "better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it"

Most of the responsibilities in my job is to take care of other people's problems, so I could totally relate to this quote. It seems like when other people scre up, they just throw their stuff over the wall, and unfortunately, I am on the other side of the wall to fix it. It does help that I get paid for it, but sometimes it gets to me. The most common saying at my work these days is: A person can only be promoted up to his level of incompetence. It seems like most managers here don't have a clue how to run this place, and are just satisfied with their incompetent selves.

I said that to a supervisor a couple of years back. He wasn't happy about it, but it shut him up until I finished the project.

Maezee- My hubby uses that saying quite a bit when dealing with people. He picked it up when in the military, so I'm not truly sure of the sayings origins. I love the saying though because it's the truth of the matter. Though, having been in your business before there were times if the customer sweet talked that I'd stay a bit later to make sure their cleaning went in on time. However, if he was rude with you I'd not have given him the extra treatment either. One of my favorite teaching posters I have says "I don't give you your grade, you earn your grade". It saved me many an argument because if a student began to argue I simply pointed to my poster which was always up on the first day of classes. Namaste-Anora
