Studying or Working?

When we were young, we always wanted to grow up, to be an adult. Now that we are an adult, most of us hope so much that we can turn back the clock and return to our childhood days. Although I am still a student in college, I would prefer studying than working. I have did some part-time job and am still doing some part-time job to earn some extra money. Seeing my parents and some of my friends working so hard for a living makes me think that studying is definitely much better than working. What are your views and what are some benefits that you think we have as a student?

I could't wait to be a grown up, now that I am, I wish I could be at home again with mom and dad. I have a full time and part time job, 3 kids, divorced, and am part time in college. It is so hard juggling all of them. I most definitely would pick studying over working, if I had to choose one or the other.

Me too. I hope so much for the carefree life that we used to have when I was young. With no worries and no troubles. How old are your kids? Does having 3 kids add on to your burden? In terms on monetary? I see that you are very busy juggling a full part job as well as a full time job. Furthermore, you are in college. I really admire you! Perhaps you could share with me some of your tips. I have so much things to do that i really wish for more than 24 hours a day!

My children are 10, 12, and 15yrs. As far as monetary, it is hard at times. My children are getting older and they tend to ask for more in the process. I just take it one day at a time and thank God everyday.

I agree. Whatever u are thinking in the past, has all come true. However we are not happy with it because it means more worries and stress being an adult in the working world. It's only being in the work force, than we realize school life is so relaxed. That's what happens to me too. It's just too bad I'm not someone meant for studies, so I'm willing to slog it out physically. There are times I wish I'm back at school but the thought of books and lessons puts me off immediately.

Being an adult definitely brings in more stress and worries. I have the same thought as you. I always tell myself that I should make full use of the chance since I now have the chance to study. However, whenever I come to think about exam, it really puts me off. Especially looking at the textbook which contains so many words. However, it has at the same time also given me lots of new knowledge

I would rather study then work. But you need money to have a life so now i'm working for a living. Still struggling with bills etc I'm currently looking for a second job plus school part time. Which I may drop out of and just work 2 jobs. One full and one part time. But idk still gotta think about it..

Yes, we need money to have a life. Because we don't own land, even eating costs us money. It is impossible to survive without working. Hmm, I think you should not drop our of school. If might seem very tough to get all things going smoothly now. But i believe if you can preserver, the paper that you get during graduation will definitely be worth it. With a higher education level, you will be able to command a better pay. Think about it, it's better to be bitter now than when we are old. You wouldn't still want to hold on to two jobs 5 years down the road. Look far!! Tell me you decision when you have made it!

It's an irony! When we're young, we want to grow up fast and be an adult. But when we're an adult, we hope time rewinds back and we're in youth again! When we're studying, we want to graduate fast and start working. But when we're in the working industry, we want to get back to school and enjoy the life there! To sum up, we'll only look forward to things we don't have nor possess at the moment. Well, for me I am a student like you right now and indeed I feel like working to earn some money for my school fees. But as a student, there's still benefits like you have HOLIDAYS! That's what the working force is not entitled to. It is our privilege as students right now. Of course there's still many other benefits! However I must say money is important to survive especially at times like this. I would recommend seeking out part times or freelance jobs!

Yup. Life is an irony that ends. You are right, we as humans look forward to things that we don't possess. Only when we lose something do we understand the importance of it. When will we ever learn our lesson? Yup, we have holidays which adults in the working world can never get to enjoy. Furthermore, we get students discount at certain places too!!! Yes, money is important to survive. Working part-time is a good way to supplement income! So do you take on some part-time or freelance job?

It depends. If you are in china or like Japan, or Singapore, you may need to study more and get a higher pay job. But if you are in Australia or in western country, I would like say, it depends on what job you want to do, you want to work for yourself or work in office. If you want to work in office or big company, you may need study to get high qualification so that you can be employed by big company and get a good salary and work from 9:00am to 4:00 pm. But you want to live better and want to start your own business, I would suggest you starting work earlier that the work is related to your career. You can study later when you need it. And earn money earlier, you can invest your money and get more money so that you can expect you don't need work in one future day. Also because you start to work earlier, you have more time to choose which way you want to go, you have more time to try different opportunity.

both....... my personal experience both have to be..... because if you are only studying the day you get to graduate you'll have very few opportunities for employment, I've seen this with all my friends, is better if you have a chance the win experience before you graduate...

You are right. We need to have a balance of both in order to have better life. All of us have to work, but studying is so much more carefree than working with all the stress and problems.

In our circle we call those who continue to go to school without actually working toward a degree that will get them a job so that they can pay back whomever has supported them while they studied professional students and freeloaders. Even if your parents don't expect to be paid back, you need to complete your studies, get a job and pay back society by becoming a productive member.

Yes, freeloaders. Those people who depend on their parents to pay their school fees. If we don't pay them back, it will feel as if we are never ourselves. Since they provided us the money to study, we need to find some ways to repay them. Whether is it monetary measures or in some other form.

You seem to be smarter than the average young person. Most college students don't realize how easy they've got it. Not that college is all that easy, but it's definitely easier than working a job. Most people don't realize it until they are out of school and working for several years and they look back on their school years and wish they were still there. I remind my son of reality every time he starts complaining about having too many hard classes. I ask him how much time he spends in class. Then I ask him how much time he spends studying at home. It never equals the 40+ hours the average working person puts in on a job. Enjoy your time as a student. Soon enough you'll join the ranks of the working world.

First, thank you for your compliment!! Perhaps because I do part-time work and have hold some full-time jobs during my holidays which is why I get this kind of feeling. However, I do understand that the jobs that I was working definitely cannot be compared to adults in a real working world. How old is your son? And yes, I will enjoy my time as a student. This is something that we'll never be able to return to as time passes!

i always have the same thought with you, wish that i can always be a kid and never grow up. it is good to be a student where we wouldn't have to face whatever that brings adults so stress. i'm currently studying in university and going to graduated soon. although i hate going out to the outside world, but i have to. i need to get a job so that i can release some of the financial burden in my family. guess that is one of the disadvantages of being an adult, we are forced to do something we don't like or never wish to. but this is what we called 'life' right? i belive things will get better as we face it and try to fix it.

Yes. being an adult, we are forced to do things we don't wish too. Yup, and this is life. No one is able to stay as a youth forever. Once we get our fair share of fun, we have to start shouldering stress and burdens. At least we are much more fortunate than those children who do not even have the chance for education. Since it's life, whether or not we like it, we still have to face it. So, we should embrace it with a smile! And good luck!

If I can turn back the hands of time, I don't want to pass through again the process of burning the midnight candle just to study piles of books in preparation of never-ending exams in school. The pressure is lesser while working in an office than breaking one's back just to pass through college. Ofcourse, being serious in one's education is one factor that led us to where we are now. It's just that I'm fed up with the pressure and stress in school that I wanted to relax which can be found at work. I'm not saying that working in an office is stress-free. It is but somehow it's controllable.

Yes, I also hate burning the midnight oil. It is not good for the body and it really takes away my concentration when ever I stay up through the night just to make sure that I revise all my materials properly. Yes, it's controllable!

It is true, I wanted to grow up and start earning quickly and have the freedom. I hated to be bogged down with all the order and commands I used to get from my teachers, parents, seniors. But at present looking at what I missed, I think I missed the brilliant opportunity to be a great personality by continuing my studies. I chose to work. Though I am earning a salary, Still when I see people younger than me being my bosses, it really pains. I would say, choose your aim, start working toward it. If your aim actually could be succeeded via studies, then it is best to ignore the small part-time jobs and focus on excelling in the field you have chosen.

Yes, when I was young, I also wanted more freedom. I did not like others to tell me what to do. I like your reminder that we should chose our aim when we are young and start working towards it, so we'll not have regrets later on in life. Hmm, for me, I really want to succeed with my studies and i really find those part time job that I am doing really takes up a lot of my time, leaving me little time to focus on my studies. You are right, I should really consider working less so I can concentrate more. Thank you, and I believe you will succeed in life too!

i recently graduated from college and i would really agree, before i wanted to be an adult already now that i am, i want to stay at least one more year, even in the last year of college i couldn't believe i was already so near at the end. i think there's this comfort zone in being a student, although it's hard work studying and keeping grades working is a whole different level. i'm still thinking being a student is better, i don't know a few years from now, probably i still would. haha XD

yea. We always wanted to grow up when we were younger. Now, we just hope that time will stop! You are right. ALthough in college, we have to work hard at studying and keeping grades. Working is a very different thing. During school, all we need to worry about is our grades, however, when we start working, we'll realise that there is much more than grades.

I love my childhood time, but willing to stay child are impossible. Soon or later we'll grown up to become an adult. I've graduated from college but had a same problem as yours when I'm still studying. My parents wasn't a rich person so they have to struggle just for earning my college payments. That's why I decided to study hard so I can graduate as soon as possible. I've lucky for getting a scholarship which grant me some extra money to pay my college expenses. I may had droped out if I don't have it. I think you must prefer to study than working. After you graduate you can work as much as want so you can earn some cash to support your self and you won't be a burden for your parents anymore.

Indeed, staying as a child is definitely impossible. Sooner or later, we have to accept the fact that responsibilities are getting greater and our shoulders are getting heavier. It's great to hear that you got a scholarship. I definitely am working towards one! Yes, i really prefer studying than working. I find that it is much more relax and carefree when we are studying.

I have finished almost of my post graduation and now still waiting for my final results. And now the times comes for struggling for jobs. I think it is very worst situation after finishing the study until we get any good jobs. So now I started to search for jobs. And I hope soon I will get a good job.

Student life was the best part of my life. If you like to study and want to earn money at the same time, there is a perfect job for that combination: researcher. You will have to study all your life, that's your work, be sure of that. And researchers can earn good money from their work, but you must be really good in a respective field. I think it is a very interesting job.
