If you've ever had a back spasm then you can relate to this topic I've had a few of them in my day . I got one of my worse ones from lifting improperly and I was had to stay in bed for almost the whole day till it relaxed and unknotted! I bend my knees before I lift and use my legs instead of my back . I also took some Advil and had to stay off work for a couple of days . I always recover but I know there are several reasons why people suffer from back spasms some have been in auto accidents or maybe sports old sport injuries, or even exercing the wrong way or for to long with stretching properly What is the cause of your backs spasm/ back pain ?

i would have to agree, back pains are so bad, i have a curve in my spine and oh it hurt, especially when i was preg, my daughter was rubbing along my spine to make it even worse. i dont wish the pains on anyone. and someone i will be doing stuff, e.g. folding washing or picking something up and my back will freeze up and go all sore..

Hi Meljessxena I can only imagine how being pregnant and having pre existing back issues at the same time can be quite painful. Were you able to carry your baby to full term? And your right carrying a baby does press on the spine as my 3 kids did when I was carrying them everything seems to be pushed back or scrunched up to accomodate the baby such as your spine, kidneys, bladder and some other stuff to more than likely. I remember my back used to hurt a lot when I was close to my delivery date was of course when it hurt the most

I remember my parents had to put a bed board in my toddler's bed when I was a tot. I remember having back aches off and on, mostly off, growing up, generally if I slept wrong. I was in a car accident, to some whiplash and a minor, but very painful head injury that led to being on some meds for over a year. After I went of those meds, which were a pheno-barb, I developed TERRIBLE back pain. Turned out I had inflamed ligaments in my back... After I was out of college I went to an allergist and discovered - I was allergic to corn... guess what corn causes... inflammation... I have continued to have back problems since the mid-1970's, but more with my neck from the couple of cases of whiplash - however, last I looked, the "neck bone's connected to the back bone..."

Hi Elic Wow I wasn't aware the corn cause inflammation never heard of that one before! I didn't think about having a food allergy could cauase problems in the back area but if its happening to you than it must be true/ You've been having back problems for a very long time 30 years is a long time to go through that even if it is off and on but I imagine your quite used to it by now I am familiar with PHENO BARB a friend of mine took that

its a problem, but I guess if you live with pain, there does come a point where you have to decide what hurts the worst and go after that first...

Hi Chinna Your right sitting in front of the PC or just plain sitting to long can do that every now and then just like you said one should get up and move around a bit to stretch the spine out when we sit our disc become compressed and for a lot of people who suffer with back pain being in a sitting position for to long can cause whatever back issue they may have to flair up

I have back spasms quite often, and you are right, they are no fun at all. I have learned to sleep with a pillow under my knees and use a heating pad on my back to help relieve the pain and pressure. In my case, it is something that I just have to live with and I am thankful for those days and nights when they are not so intense. I have gone through 2 back surgeries and still have problems with my back. I have been told that my back is in a lot better shape than it once was, but the spasms will be something that I have to deal with. In my experience, I would rather go throught the spasma than have some of those days in which I can hardly even walk due to the pain.

Hi Lynnemg Wow 2 back surgeries a neighbor of mine went through the same thing they put steel rods in her back and then had to go back in again I think she had something like bone spurs anyway it was serious and the surgery was needed I bet thats kinda scary getting back surgery my son had it for a hyrniated disc they had to take our about 40-50% of the disc but he made a full recovery and a quick one too. He feels much better and is able to really have the range of motion he used to have before he had the surgery. I do sleep with a pillow between my knees and that help straighten the spine better and it works pretty good I do some back stretching exercises my doctor gave me and they help as well

Both of my surgeries were to correct a herniated disc....the same one both times. After the first surgery, I felt so much better, I thought I was Superwoman and did way too much way too soon. As a result, I reinjured that disc and had to have it fixed again. The surgeries were only 3 months apart, and needless to say, I took it a lot easier the second time. I still do the stretches the surgeon recommended, my range of motion is still pretty good, but not as good as it once was. Unfortunately, I also have other problems with my back that effect everything as well. They are not bad enough for surgery, which is a good thing because I am not ready to go through that again, but they are bad enough to effect my day-to-day life and put limitations on what I am able to do. In addition to sleeping with a pillow under my knees and a heating pad on my back, I also have a memory foam matress on my bed and I frequently take long, hot baths. I do my best to stay away from any kind of pain medication though. I feel that there are other ways to deal with it and pain meds are my very last resort.

My husband has been suffering with an injury to the soft tissue in the back for going on 5 weeks. He injured it doing an abdominal exercise at the gym. This is horrible. He is taking muscle relaxers and very strong pain meds but nothing seems to help him.

He has been to the doctor and was prescribed the pain pills as well as medication for muscle spasms. His back is better but still not where it should be. I'm going to try to get him back in to the doctor next week. They took x-rays and said that nothing is fractured or broken but at some point this should be getting better.

Hi Lauren Uh Oh that doesn't sound to good sorry to hear your husband is in such pain has he spoken with a doctor about what he should do about it? He shouldn't keeping popping pain pills as it does nothing for the cause but of course it works for the symptoms (sometimes) but if nothing seems to be helping him maybe he should really consider seeing someone to get it evaluated Also the pain pills will stop working as his body may build up an immunity to them

You're right about back pain being one of the worst kind there is. I have scoliosis and it can get really bad when it acts up. It's the kind of pain that never lets up which is more annoyingl. Kind of like a tootchache. The only thing that can ease it for me is intranuscular pain reliever or a dose of Tramadol.

Hi Stellar Sorry to hear about your back issues even though I don't have Scoliosis I used to work with a girl who did and she was in pain she would have to leave work sometimes because it got so bad and it seemed to be constant just like you said I'm not sure what Tramadol is but it sounds like a very powerful pain reliever

Oh I know how you feel! I do have that too occasionally, and when that happens, it just makes my day worst! Another worst pain is toothache! Sheez! I wish there was a cure-all medicine and could do it fast - really fast! Another reason for back pains is I guess lack of calcium. Therefore take calcium tabs!

Fell flat on my back when I was 12. Holy moly. Once in a while my back hurts so much that 500 MG ibuprofen does not work. And really that's already pretty heavy stuff. It's this annoying pain that you feel with every heartbeat. It's going to be fun in my life really. I am only 19 and already having back problems.

There are many causes of back spasms, the most common once are spinal injury like Slipped Disk, Herniated Nucleus Polposus, Spondylolisthisis etc...all this injury impinges the spinal cord mater thus causing the muscular spasm within the deramtomal level of the muscular distribution of the affected nerve.. though Ibuprofen (advil) may help relax the muscle and quell the pain, you still need to consult your physician for proper diagnosis and treatment.. visit an orthopedic surgeon in your next available time.

I've luckily have not have a back spasm, but my brother in law did. He accidentally lifted a 300lb door wrong. It threw out his back and he had to rest for a couple of days. I probably would have had the same problem, but someone luckily told me only lift with my legs and not my back when I was younger. I'm sorry that you had to experience a back spasm. Have a good day Cherry41

Hi Mister Whoever gave you that advice about lifteing with your legs instead of your back gave you some pretty good advice! A 300 pound door is pretty heavy as well as awkward to lift he should have had some help with it(or did he have help and his back went out anyway)
