I have read some articles about motivating your self and like talking to yourself in the mirror and telling yourself positive things will have a positive effect on you. As of now I really need some good positive vibes to motivate me in my professional and personal life. I've had a a lot of doubts about my capabilities and as of now I really need to boost self image. I never did try those articles but I think as of now I would definitely want to give it a try. Do you think that motivating yourself in the mirror really works? Have any of you tried it out?

Hello Hatley, I tried doing it this morning and it did work. Right before I left for work I told myself motivating stuff and it really boosted my energy. I think I am going to do this regularly and do it every time I feel stressed or down.

The best times for practice are the first 15 minutes after you wake up, and the last 15 minutes before you go to bed, like as you are drifting off to sleep....it is when the sub conscious mind is most impressionable. It does work, when you believe, so believe and it will work. Like Henry Ford said, "Whether YOU BELIEVE you can or YOU BELIEVE you can't you are right!" Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Yes I believe in that. Because no matter awesome or great the motivation from outside come from or be given by, if we do not or never motivate ourselves then it will be nothing. Outside motivations are just a motor or reminder, and the rest depends on us.

That is right, that is why I am trying this out since no one can help me but myself. No amount of motivation from others can help me if I don't motivate myself.

I absolutely believe that your self esteem is key to success. One of the things that I have done is to tape motivational and positive phrases like perhaps I am strong and confident. I say each phrase 5 times and listen to the tape every morning. I would also recommend a wonderful (and free) internet program tht you can take that will help you. It's called Tools To Life and I completed it and every once in a while go back for a tune up. You can be the person that you want to be.

For me self motivating is the same as when I speak directly to God, I tell myself every day, that this is the day that will be better for me. Although the day may not be the best, I certainly had a positive attitude and a clearer mind to think a bit clearer when things did not go my way. Therefore, when things do go bad I was at a bit more calmer state. I really do not look in a mirror when I do this I basically think to my self positively speaking that is.

I think I should also include prayers in motivating myself. I just noticed that I have been praying less recently.

Hello edwardjoy, Do you have anything you can suggest to me regarding your motivation music or videos. I am interested in trying those out. It would be nice to listen to some audio books while I am working at the office.

If you have set something in your mind you will go to the goal, I mean it actually works, it's power of will.

It depends on how you feel about yourself. If you are naturally depressed, looking in the mirror will not do any good. I do believe if you forget about things and just start to work at the project eventually you will get better. For instance, supposing you plan to be an accountant. You could talk in the mirror and say "I will succeed if I find that both sides have to balance," but if you get out the book and try each exercise or go to the computer and do what your online instructor says, you will eventually get better.

You are absolutely right. Self motivation alone won't get me anywhere, it should be coupled with action. That is why my experiment today worked. I tried it out and I was very much productive today and was less prone to getting bored and frustrated at work. I guess it is working on me little by little.

It does work. I don't speak to myself in the mirror but before I get out of bed each morning I tell myself it's going to be a great day--and it is, whatever happens. I think positive things all day. I look out today, for example, and it's gray and cold and windy and I look for the beauty in it even as I shiver and turn up the heat. As a result, it's sunny in my heart. You decide you're going to have a good day and you will. You decide you will eat healthy and you will. You decide if your life is a success by your attitude and your attitude is what you choose it to be. It takes a few days to get into it and make those changes within yourself but if you choose to, you can.

I absolutely agree with you. I've tried this a couple of times before when I feel frustrated in something and I just tell myself that everything will work out fine and and I feel much better after. This time I will be telling myself that I will try another approach which is similar to your approach. Every morning after I wake up I will tell myself that I am going to have a great day today and I am going to work hard and be productive. So far I am having a great day today and I am a bit more productive today compared to last week.

i dont tell my self in the morrior but i do say to my self i am going to do this or win this with the horse etc. i've said for a number of yrs that i'm going to have a particular saddle i was wanting for i dont know how long. i now have that saddle. i was also determined to lose a heap of weight last yr, and i did. i had a pair of jeans i wanted to fit back in to and that was my goal. we all have our own little ways of motivating our selves to do things and you go with what ever works for you.

In some ways this has worked for me in the past. I also motivated myself to lose weight this year and so far I have lost more than 16lbs just by motivating myself to lose weight. I guess I'll apply it to everything in my life and maybe I could get the same results.

No! It has not for me! I have tried it a number of times and it has gotten me no- where! For me it is a waste of time. I do get motivation from friends and that was works for me. I just am not a person who is very motivated. Just the way I am! So if I do someone has to trigger the feeling in me.

Positive thinking is what you mean when we do self motivating. Of course it works, once you let the positive energy into your body, the result is also positive to areas where you're weak. I've tried this so many times and it works.

I guess they have similar meaning except in my case I say it out loud to myself instead of just thinking it. Pretty much the same meaning.hehehe

most of the time we want to look good when we see ourselves in front of the mirror.i did this many times and found it easy to boosting my self-esteem and motivating myself in a quick time.it is not permanent as you need to do it many times to stay on that level you want.the key point is to believe in yourself.when we give that strong power of believing our own self no doubt you will feel greater and will going through anything that can stop you.so i do believe that self motivating is really works to myself.

My family and friends have always motivated me. My problem was I lack some effort in motivating myself. That is why I was open to the idea of trying to motivate myself everyday so that my day will always be good no matter how bad things may become.

I think that you don't need motivate yourself in front of the mirror, all you have to do is think positively about things that you are currently having problem with. Thinking negatively will lead only to failure.

I tried to avoid negative thoughts today and whenever this negative thoughts try to sink in my mind I just try and brush them away. So far these negative thoughts weren't able to bother me today and I am very much happy with the results I had today.

Motivate myself, I often do. But I always fail. I never managed to motivate myself. There must be the right person, who can give me motivation.

In my opinion; no one will motivate ourselves other us. Because other did not do anything to motivate us if we do not follow them... The best thing I think is that we need rely on our capabilities which make us to reliable in all aspect...

yes it really does.. and i encourage everyone to do it..you have to believe in yourself and what you do it really helps. and being around positive people helps or being the one positive person of the bunch goes a long ways too.. kind words will get you far..even if those kind words are to yourself.. always try and stay positve and see the positvie things in life dont dwell on the negitave things in the past but remember all the good things you have went thur and draw strength from that.. always encourage other people along the way and never never dash someone else's dream.. or let anyone else tell you u cant do something that in your heart you really want to do if there is a will there is a way.. but we have to make that heppen for ourselves.. and put ourselves at the top of our lists.. good luck in what ever you do or become i wish you courage and strenght to over come any problems you have.. have a great day thank you for positing a great question.. take care..

Hi Andyvil, It works for me. I might need to try doing it again maybe later this day as I'm in a situation right now where I need to motivate my self and uplift my spirit. I suddenly feel bad and bothered but I don't know why. I hate this feeling. I never feel like this way that often. However, today fro some reason I'm kind of worried but does not know why. It's kind of scaring me. It's better to at least know why you feel worried rather than feeling this way for no reason at all. Maybe I just need a real good sleep and vacation because of stress at work.

I haven't tried it yet. I think I have the same problem like yours. I always thought that internet has brought me a new world wherein I could be somebody which I am not. I could be somebody I always want to be. But building a world of your own is not good at all. I think talking to yourself in the mirror and telling yourself positive things will help you boost your confidence. You can't let other people believe in you, if you don't even trust yourself. You should also know what your weaknesses are so you could put attention to them. Like for me, I am currently attending a class to improve my communication skills. I do it every Saturday and we have this thing that we were asked to talk in front of many and although I am have stage fright, I always look forward to do it since I could see that it brings positive impact in me. I think it would also be better if you really do what you tell yourself in the mirror. If you tell yourself you can do something, then do it.
