Are you skipping Morning breakfast

India
October 6, 2010 6:40am CST
Almost all health magazines say that we must not skip the morning breakfast. But i often skip it. and most days, i used to take a cup of tea with some cookies for breakfast. South indian dosa and idli with sambar is my favorite items. Please share your favorite items so i can also taste them when i come across. By the way, is there any of my dear myLotters who skip the breakfast like me. Just curious to know and it gives a sense of comfort that i am not alone. LOL.

That is true you should not skip breakfast it is important meal in a day, you better not eat lunch or dinner than not eat on breakfast. Well me I am eating full in breakfast so that I could not eat more in lunch and in dinner time. I love eating in the morning it gives me more energy.:)

I skip it sometimes, but not every day. I like to sleep in in the morning, and because of that, I sometimes simply do not have time for breakfast. I know it is a bad habit though, so I try to avoid it, but sometimes it still happens...

Now i stay in hostel and my parents don't stay with me. And here maximum time i skip my breakfast. As nobody give breakfast timely here and at the morning i go to my class and don't get time to take breakfast. it's become my habit now. I know it's health hazed. But i don't get much time to make breakfast.

hi. i understand. though you are aware of the health hazed aspect, the circumstances does not allow you. well it happens to some people. what is dangerous is once it become habit, we dont like to take even when it is available. anyway, i feel its bad for you that too being a student. same time as i said, i feel safe that here is one more like me. :)

I always try to have my breakfast in the morning because I know my gastric won't pity me when it wants to have "fun". But there are some days which I really can't avoid but have to leave without breakfast and it is very inconvenient to me. Just to have a glass of warm milk, or a cup of tea with fried egg and baked tomato, or an omelette with bacon, or some cookies in the morning is enough for my breakfast, and I'm happy to start working.

You are right. when we have some sort of health hazard already, we cannot skip it. and when we face unavoiable situations like u mentioned, got to do something. thats a good one -- warm milk or tea. i too like tea and cookies. it gives some energy and its easy too.

I skip breakfast a lot... not because I am not hungry. But sometimes I just don't feel like eating... or there is not anything around that I generally want to eat. But, on the flip side, I LOVE breakfast food. I love coffee, eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, french toast... ALL OF IT!!

No... my schedule isn't really tight. It's just that my appetite isn't the same as it used to be. I lost my gallbladder in 2009 and ever since then.. some things I just can't really eat without consequences.. so I limit what I eat now.

The first thing that my stomach gets after I woke up was one glass of drinking water. Then after taking a shower and gone to office, my breakfast would just be cereal drink. Chocquik cereal drink to be more specific. It's like Nesvita if you're more familiar with it. One cup of that cereal drink was already enough for my breakfast. Then I'll just wait for the 10AM break so I could eat my brunch. This is how I eat in the morning during workdays. When at home, I tend not eat breakfast because I woke up late. So I almost don't feel hungry at all that I could just wait for lunch time which is only few hours ahead. But regularly I always have a glass of chocolate or milk and I that serves as my breakfast already. -)

It is not a good idea to skip breakfast. Everywhere you have read that, knew what they were talking about. The reason we need to eat something in the morning is because until we do our system is still asleep and not working the way it should be. The food wakes everything up, is the easiest way to say it without all the medical stuff in there. So even when you are having a cookie you are waking up your system so it is kind of like having breakfast but not a good choice. The sugar will give your system a quick start but in a short while you will have a fall quickly from the sugar and you will feel weak. The easiest thing to eat for breakfast if your not into it, is a piece of toast with peanut butter and a glass of milk. That way you are getting the calcium and vitamin D from the milk and the carb from the bread and the protien from the peanut butter and the milk. If you have a carb and a protien together it will get your metabolism going faster because it takes more energy for your body to digest a carb and protien together and you will feel less hungry for a longer period because it takes longer for your body to digest carbs and protiens together at the same time. So I have my cup of coffee first thing in the morning while I have a smoke and check my emails and such. Then after my coffee I have my toast with peanut butter and my glass of milk and then I take my vitamins. After all that I will brush my teeth. On the weekends I will make a bigger breakfast and have bacon and eggs and hashbrowns and tomato slices because I have more time as I don't work on the weekends. Cheers my friend and happy mylotting, Chris

Porridge oats is really good for you. Do you eat it with milk? If so that's even better. I like cookies too and it might be the sweets you need in the morning because your body is used to it. Cheers my friend and happy mylotting, Chris

Dear Chrislotz first of all thanks for the participation. Yes I agree completely with you. Of course, I tried a lot to have some light food at least many times in my life. But some time later i switch back to tea and cookies. I do not understand why. For the past 2-3 months, I am now taking a cup of Oats porridge and after 2 hours a cup of tea / coffee with 2-3 cookies. I take breakfast only when I attend any functions around.

I never eat breakfast, I just have a cup of tea. I just don't feel hungry until i've been awake about 3 hours. Then I have a banana or nutty snack bar to keep me going. I know eating breaksfast is good for you, but the thought of eating before i feel like it just makes me feel sick!

Unless I am fasting, I don't skip breakfast. I need the energy to work and for that I usually have heavy breakfast. It could be rice or any type of fried noodles. It's pretty common to eat something like that here. I don't really like bread though. I usually feel hungry faster that usual if I take bread for breakfast.

I eat both south Indian and continental breakfast.I rarely skip breakfast. My favourite is oats. They also make idlis and dosas once a week so i manage to eat almost all types of food for breakfast.I don't miss breakfast as i exercise in the morning and its advisable to have breakfast within 30 minutes of exercising as it is thought that is good for weight control.

I used to do it when I was in college. I pay hard for it. I developed peptic ulcer. Every time I eat acid which rise and I will throw up. I often miss class because of times. Then I drank Zantac and I got better. From then on I make it a point to eat something for breakfast.

And as they always say, breakfast is the most important part of the meal. It will fuels your morning activity. If you do not have time to sit on a breakfast table. You can grab and go. Take an apple, banana or sandwich.

i don't skip breakfast because i don't take snacks in between breakfast and lunch.it's the least help i could do so i won't be craving for any food at 9am.my work is tiresome so i need to fuel myself that early.besides i understand that there are hazards of doing so.here are the few details on that. Skipping breakfast may put you on the fast track to weight gain and heart disease, according to a new study. Researchers found that healthy women who skipped breakfast for two weeks ate more during the rest of the day, developed higher "bad" LDL cholesterol (search) levels, and were less sensitive to insulin (search) than women who ate breakfast every day. High LDL cholesterol levels and impaired insulin sensitivity are both major risk factors for heart disease (search). Although previous studies on the effects of eating or skipping breakfast in obese people may have produced conflicting results, researchers say the findings of this study show that skipping breakfast may lead to weight gain as well as increase the risk of heart disease in healthy people over time.

Hi wealthymouli, We're on the same boat I think. A cup of coffee will do for me most of the time, if taking it with a slice of bread would not be possible. But you're right, I also learned that breakfast is an important meal of the day which must not be missed out. Now, the least that I can have for breakfast is an oatmeal pancake and still a cup of coffee. We really must be concerned with our health. Happy mylotting to you.

Though its nice to know that there exists a person like me on this planet, I also worry for you as well as me. I prefer most of the times tea. some times coffee. But surely with some cookies. orange/pineapple flavor or simply some milk biscuits.mmmm... anyway, try to come out of this to take care of ur health.

When I get up in the morning I don't have much appetite to put something into my stomach. In less active days, I sometimes just wait for 2 hours before I have something. If I force myself to stuff something into my mouth, I always end up with a sore stomach. It is most uncomfortable when I am away and stay in B&B, since I have to take their breakfast or I won't have anything to eat until late during my trip. I guess the 'rule' that 'everyone has to have breakfast in order to keep themselves healthy' is only suitable to certain people.

I am also skipping breakfast sometimes, but it is not that good as per medical advise. better have some fruits, that would do good., if you are concerned about your fitness and want to maintain diet and that's the reason you want to skip breakfast, then my advice is at least take some fruits or fruit juices

In my opinion skipping morning breakfast is lame and you must not do it becoz when u eat at night it has a gap of abt 12 hrs b/w the breakfast and dinner so it may lead to weakness so better eat in the morning or u may become ill.

Honestly I skip breakfast about 6 out of 7 days per week. It is mainly because I set my alarm so I can get extra sleep. Unfortunately this leaves me no time for eating breakfast. I love cereal and toast and breakfast sandwiches. I always wake up at the latest time possible then wake up, get dressed quickly and shower, and take off to work or school quickly. Rarely I grab some pop tarts to eat in the car but It is better than nothing. I would like to start eating breakfast again because it is very good for you and I am usually starving throughout the day until lunch so it would benefit me greatly.
