how many times, has it happened to you, that you had been to a store to buy a specific thing and ended up buying almost what ever you laid eyes on. are you the impulse shopper who buys things on an urge rather than on necessity, or do you control yourself. i kind of indulge in shopping on impulse, once in a while. it gives a high u know. but most of the time, i control myself. do tell me who all indulge in such shopping. i wanted to know how many think like me.. :)

Welcome to MYLOT... dear friend. Impulse shopping is not just a female trend. I am a male, and I TOO have experienced this, when I visit shopping plazas and malls. Even there were days, when I went for getting a shaving gel, and ended up buying things over 2000 Indian Rupees. I presume, this is one reason for exhibition -and- sale sort of businesses. previously, there were only general stores, where you went with a list of necessary stuff, got them, paid and brought back home. BUT now, with the super-bazaar sort of malls, you will walk around the RACKS to stuff your bag with things that are necessary as also on impulse. Whatever, Now, as you rightly said, I have learnt to CONTROL myself.

sorry, i had been held up in other works, so was not able to answer back any of my discussions. well, i just read ur response. good that you have controlled yourself. yes of course, the packaging is so good and the display attracts many. and i think many buy due to childrens compulsion. good to know that impulse shopping is not only female related. dont u go to departmental stores now? i buy from them for all my urgent needs.

well, I too fell sorry to have thought that you have truly vanished. It usually happens to newcomers, who feel that their PRECIOUS time is wasted, when mylot earnings do not reflect according to their expectations. And, yes.. I do escort my kids and wife to the stores. i will MAKE them promise that they will not go on impulse buying. They should be writing down a list of wanted items, before starting. But, allot a thousand rupees more, for fulfilling their impulses.

then u r a good father and husband i must say.. well, yes i actually felt, i was not earning much from the participation in discussions. so i concentrated on tasks u c. i am ok with writing and have done some tasks related to it but the pay here for writing is very meagre. so i do them only when i'm free for thhat day. so did not actually have time to see the responses or start more discussions. now i have kind of allocated time to read responses as well. thanks to u ;) i generally login only when there are no writing assignments for me. today i have some of them to finish and i must start working on them soon. ok then have a good time.. and yes, ur name cant be consultrainer isnt it?? ;)

Hi Madhavi, Actually the super markets are making us one. all get attracted to the glossy covers and colors of the packets. eatables and other stuffs are packed colorfully and arranged also very nicely to attract us buyers. we end up buying more due to all the glitz and glamor.

how very nice of your to give out your straight answer.. but, it would have been more encouraging to you, to me, and all other responders, if only the starter of the topic, Madhavi ... found this topic interesting, and started writing back her comments to our responses. alas, she seems to have forgotten us. Thanks for writing .. though.

hello durga, yes very true, the clever exhibit tactic does the trick. but, its also a nice place to try out new products what do you feel? i have found about many products after buying them first at these markets.

i usually try and walk away from the item and think long and hard about what i am going to use it for, wear with it, etc, then if i still want it and can afford it, i often get it.

yes, good way to get over the temptation. do you think affordability alone is a factor that dictates one to buy or not?

Everything's OK in moderation, at least that's what I tell myself. Of course, not every day, and everywhere you go - as you'd end up probably piling up a lot of debt, and not only that, but also you'd probably be a legit pack-rat/shopaholic. lol. Neither of those things are good.

I am exactly like you. Once in a while, when I have extra money, I tend to buy on impulse. But most times, I just stick to my budget. I avoid overspending. I can say 90% of the time, I can control my shopping impulses. I usually just buy on impulse when I think I deserve it.

Everytime I go to Walmart this happens to me! It is a very bad thing!! Now that I have my little girl I always am getting things for her everywhere I go when I wasn't wanting to spend any money. For a while I got myself in so much trouble with compulsive shopping I had to keep taking everything back. I learned my lesson!

hope u did not have to learn it the hard way. so how old is ur little angel? does she keep asking u to buy things. my daughter does so often now-a-days. i have to keep reminding her about the things i bought her just a day ago or so, and convince her that i wont be buying anything for a while. so u r a housewife.. i have become one fr my daughter. but no regrets. i love my sweety and love spending time with her.. how about you?

It used to happen to me a lot in the past, but I have gotten much better at avoiding impulse purchases. Having a fixed budget helps, as boring as it may sound, and also asking yourself if you really need whatever it is you want to get. Never get anything just because it is cheap, but ask yourself if it is necessary instead.

right asking oneself if its necessary shakes us out of the reverie. i just indulge in it whenever i want to try out new things, provided i have enough finance. i'l keep aside a little amount for such exploration. trying out new things also must be done once in a while. this makes one knowledgeable about the products in the market. what do you say?
