This is becaus you have Windows Seven Starter. This version of Windows does not allow you to set a background image. There is now a blue background image with the windows seven logo on it, but this is impossible to chance. As you say yourself, you can tweak your computer by copying and replacing some files but these downloaded files can indeed harm your computer. So be sure from what source you get these files from! Another option is to upgrade your windows version to Home Basic/Premium or higher using Windows Aytime Upgrade tool but this will cost of course some money I'm afraid.

Windows 7 is newer than Windows XP. Here is a quick list for you: Windows 95 Windows 98 Windows 2000 (or also called Windows Millenium) Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional) Windows Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate) Windows 7 (Starter, Home Premium, Home Basic, Enterprise, Ultimate)

In other words, no matter whether you use personalize or a shortcut, you cannot change your desktop background. That sounds like a corrupted file. If it is then you might consider a repair install without losing anything.

Yes, it is windows 7 starter. There is no way I can do what I really want to do to put pics on my screen. Anyway, thank you for sharing still. Enjoy your day, ejorah. Sorry for the late reply. :)

what version did you use? Is it Windows 7 starter Edition? For whatever reason, the ability to change custom wallpapers has been removed. Windows 7 starter edition does not support the following: * Aero Glass, meaning you can only use the "Windows Classic" or other opaque themes. It also means you do not get Taskbar Previews or Aero Peek. * Personalization features for changing desktop backgrounds, window colors, or sound schemes. * The ability to switch between users without having to log off. * Multi-monitor support.
