Hv you noticed how some people start a discussion and dont respond to replies?

Isn't the purpose of starting a discussion to discuss? I find a lot of people just starting a discussion and never replying to the responses. I personally feel that when I start a discussion and I get responses, good or bad, I should respond. Is that not the purpose of this site? And is it not for what all of us have signed up? To make friends? Or atleast to interact with others? What is the point in just starting a discussion and not even bothering to look at your responses and reply to them? This is my opinion. What is yours?

You are so right, and this is a big bone of contention for me. We just end up with a whole line of comments rather than a discussion, completely against the idea of myLot. I do try to answer all replies on my discussions, although there is always the possibility of missing some.

Hi oldchem1. You are one of the people whose comments I lookout for. You know why? You sound so much like my grandma. No offence. It is that you remind me of my grandmom so much! It is a pleasant feeling. What you say is true. IT IS more just comments than a discussion. As I said, I try and reply to all the people who respond, but dont only when I dont understand what the person is trying to tell

I also feel the same. I feel responsible to reply if someone responds to the post that I have started. Practically, I feel it like and obligation. Well, this is the reason why, I do not start much a discussion considering that I am not always able to go online and I might not be able to reply to the responses. I often reply to discussions started by others, that way, I can just check from time to time the posts instead of always checking the responses where I might not be able to do.

I start discussions only when I do want an answer to my question or want to share something with all of you. I don't start discussions just for the sake of starting one. That is why you can see that I have started very few. Often even i do only the replying.

It truly amazes me to see such discussions. I mean how many times people come on here and ask for suggestions and or advice, hmm then do not reply.. It puzzles me but then I have searched old discussion here on myLot and find that this has been a very common thing. I came across a discussion where someone asked whether they should stay married or not due to the kids right, so I noticed that 72 responses were inputted and the poster never replied to a single one. hmmm I look at it this way in our off-line lives how many times do we stand in groups and discussed things where one of us stares into space and does not say a word for hours. Pretty funny though, so either the poster just thinks that starting a discussion will get them to earn for the responses or I really do not know what they are thinking really, I find it a bit rude because if I am asking for advice then not give you feed back then why ask. The other thing that comes to mind is, does the poster even read the responses.. hmmm

That is what I am led to think when there is no reply. I do not think they read the discussions at all. And yes, I do find it a little rude when there is no reply to any of the responses. Like I said, makes others look like fools. I like replying to people who respond to my discussions and I make it a point to reply to theirs as well. I dont reply only when I dont understand what the person is trying to convey(sorry, some people are so bad in communicating or their english is so bad that I dont understand)

Correct me if I am wrong, but there are no earnings given for replying to a discussion you have started. This may be the reason people start discussions and then never reply to them. They are not really concerned with starting a discussion, they are just doing it for the money.

Is that so? I don't know about that. I thought we get paid for posting and whether be it for other's dicussions or ours. Anyway, I enjoy discussing things with people here and usually don't keep track of my earnings. So I have not noticed till now. Anybody know if that is true?

I'm guilty of not replying to all replies to discussions I have started. I try to go back and reply to the ones that are open to discussion. Unfortunately, there have been a few replies that I just don't know how to reply to so I draw a huge blank and don't reply. I think sometimes people forget to go back to their discussions they've made. I made a discussion and it didn't get any replies for a few days so I completely forgot about it, well I went to my discussions I started and it has a few but I'm not sure whether or not I should reply because I am still new at this and I don't know if people go back to discussion they replied to to see if they have a reply waiting for them.

Hi. You have an option in your settings to be notified if your discussion has been commented on. When we turn it on, we get notifications to the email id given that such a member has commented on our discussion. I have it on so it is easy for me to keep track of which discussions got replies.

Yes, I know how busy the life of a homemaker is. I am one myself so I do know what you are talking about. But even if it is a day or some hours late, I make it a point to reply to everybody who took pains to respond to my discussion.

yes it's true, i myself everytime i wrote a discussion i will check it if there's any comment. I am happy giving my opinion back again. Well, i hope other members here realize that here in mylot it should have a discussion meaning its an interaction between other people. The discussion should flow, or if not you should give response back =)

I do the same as you kmaram. I do keep checking to see if I have recieved replies. But nowadays, with all the house work and taking care of my small daughter, I dont find much time to log in frequently or for long hours.

Hello Devijay. Unfortunately, some people don't seem to get the idea that a discussion involves two people. It seems that they have the mistaken belief that if they start lots of discussions, they'll earn more. In fact, if you're active on MyLot and respond to your discussions to keep the conversation, you'll earn more and have fun and make new friends in the process. These days, if I see a discussion with no comments from the originator, I don't even bother to reply. I don't like talking to myself, which is what is effectively happening when people don't acknowledge replies.

Well said Sandra1952. Yes, it is like talking to oneself. It actually is a little odd to see that the discussion itself has generated a lot of replies but there is no response from the person who started it. Kind of makes everybody look like a fool.

That has been a long time problem here. I myself is guilty of that practice. I have not been active on mylot for so many months already. And at that time, I only respond to those that I feel like responding to. My apologies. But since I have not started a discussion for a long time, i have not experienced yet how people react to my discussion.

When I am inactive, I dont start any discussions at all. But most of the time, I do reply to everyone even if it is a little late.

I mostly agree. I have always tried to get back to everyone - the least I could do since they have taken the time to comment on my discussion. HOWEVER, I haven't had the time to reply to everyone lately . . . very busy with the kids . . . and I INTEND to still reply back to all the discussions I did post in the past month (or two) - just haven't gotten around to doing it. I have read them - truly I have - I just haven't had a chunk of time to dive into the replies. So, sorry if you are waiting for one of mine - I WILL respond eventually!

There is not much point in starting a discussion if you don't reply to the responses you receive. Both you and the responder both gain from participation.

Yes, and people dont seem to understand that. The exact purpose of this site itself is wasted then.

I think it is must to give comments on each response which you have got for your discussions. Because when somebody gives response to your discussions then it is our duty to give her comments on their replies that what is our view on their response. And it is also affected on our reputation in mylot. So I always do this.

I dont give much importance to my reputation here. But as I told earlier, I think it is a basic curtesy to respond to your own discussion, dont you think?

There might be several reasons for someone to not respond back on the replies. One of the most common reason as already mentioned by an user, is that some users don't know the actual meaning of discussion. They might also be just starting discussions to earn more money. Some users might not be getting enough time to respond back if they are getting many replies but some interaction is enough. I myself had started a few discussions in the beginning when I joined myLot but now I don't really start new discussions as I am not regular here and would not have been able to participate and reply back.

Genuine reasons are ok mturacom. But I do see the person being active and commenting on all the other discussions but refuses to answer his/her own discussion. That is what I dont understand

I don't think that I'm obliged to respond to everyone. Sometimes you don't know or you can't decide what to say. But I feel good to comment the responses. I have a problem though. My country is in Eastern Europe in the GMT+2 time zone. That makes EST+7 and as I see most of myLotters live in the US. At this moment for me it's the early afternoon, but in NY this is an early morning, at other states people are sleeping. It's difficult to make a real conversation.

Yes, that is one big drawback when you start or even respond to other's discussions. I do not expect others to reply immediately. I too would have some work or the other and wont be able to sit in fornt of my laptop contiously. So I do respond as and when I get time.
