The most dangerous route to travel - Land, Sea, Air?

Philippines

Talking with my friends a week ago, we had a topic about traveling. We wanted to travel but one of my friends said she didn't want to travel in an airplane because it would be difficult to escape if there were some crisis. I suggested traveling by ship but she also said that it would be a problem with all the sea creatures and probable swimming difficulty. When she said she'd rather travel by land, I jokingly told her that you could get in an accident whether you like it or not. It is true, though, right? What do you think is the most dangerous route to travel? =D

Hi, I should say that every transportation mode has its own pro and con. and It is depend on individual whether they feel safe to travel by which transportation mode. For me, I love to travel by air,so it mean I like to fly. I have been flying back to my hometown once a year and I don't have any phobia when coming to take a plane. I have get used to it although for long distance journey, I still feel easy and normal. I never travel by sea before except during my star cruise trip. That was a super big ship and I also enjoyed the whole trip. I don't feel any strong movement while the ship is moving and the sea view is definitely Great. However, I have phobia to travel by land..too dangerous if were to go for long distance trip.I do read alot of news about road accident and all those pictures posted in newspaper looks scary to me.I try to avoid travel by land if possible.

You have phobia traveling by land? So you don't go out? lol Kidding. There are pros and cons but I want your opinion on what you think is the most dangerous route. And I guess in your case it is traveling long distances by land.

The most dangerous route to travel is to travel without any safety precautions and without faith. I always believed that if a person is fearful and always worry, more bad things can happen to him or her. The more you think of the negative things, the more it will stalk you. A friend of mine who's always careful not to lose his laptop lost it eventually because that's what he fears and worries about. In my case I'm careful too but never thought that someone might steal from me and so far I've never lost a cellphone, laptop, wallet, etc due to theft. I've been travelling often and lately there's been a lot of car accident but i've never been to one coz i always think that somebody's protecting me.

Statistically, travel by air is the safest means of transport, with the huge number of passengers safely transported, but when things go wrong, they tend to go really wrong...You're off the ground...you're taking a risk...Road transport is regarded as the most dangerous means of travel, where despite all efforts to make roads and vehicles safer, people still insist on driving Drunk, speeding where its not safe, and now even trying to send text messages while driving..You need all your skill and concentration to get there safely,as it's not just your own driving you need to be aware of,it's the unexpected thing around the next bend...More people would opt for land or air travel,as we'd for the most part like to get where we're going as quickly as possible..Sea travel would be seen as more for a slow, leisurely cruise,or transportation of items and vehicles too big for air transport..

I agree. There isn't much traffic when you are in the air as compared to when you are on the ground. Even if you are driving safely, one driver might be too drunk and is driving towards you.

I think by airplane. On the road in a car or truck etc there are way more accidents but you stand a chance of living when in a car accident. If there is a plane accident lets face it usually there are no survivors :( I really dont know about sea travel though.

Well thats why I said usually. Getting all those people out of a plane using parachutes as its barreling toward the ground would be next to impossible as fast as they fall. Unless they could get it to crash slowly instead of just smashing into the ground then people wouldnt survive in a plane crash while inside the plane.

I don't think you could say that. I mean, there are people who also lived even in airplane accidents. It really depends on the severity of the accident though to say the chances of living of a person.

I think all routes has its danger. Travelling on land has higher risk of accidents due to the number of cars on the road, travelling by sea depends on the weather and pirates? (in areas infested by pirates) which has lower risk of accident but more fatal and lastly travelling by air has the lowest risk of accident (as in crash with another polan/ufo) but the most fatal of them all. If anything happens, it is 100% see-you-in-the-afterlife scenario... Happy Mylotting

The most dangerous is land travel since there are more vehicles in land than airplanes and ships. The only thing that scares people are the survival rate as far as air and sea travel is concerned. More often it is the fault of the driver, pilot or captain that cause the accident and not the vehicle itself. Air accident or sea accidents are often fatal and make headlines. On the other hand, people are already used to hearing vehicular accidents that occur in a daily basis that we are used to it already.

I wouldn't say Air, as it's more safer than people try to make out it isn't. Land is pretty much down to how safe you can be, if you're aware of situations you can easily get from A to B. I would say sea, as you can come across many different types of obstacles and it would be really awkward to be lost at sea. You can manage when your lost on land, if the air well I don't know how you could become lost unless your a pilot.

According to me i think air travel is the most dangerous.Only we have to pray to God before going on any journey.Recently there was an air plane crash in Bangalore and a lot of people lost their lives.I recently traveled on a plane and i had some fear but the plane landed safely.Traveling by sea is too dangerous as you are in the middle of the sea and there is no help if a problem happens.

I think they are all about the same. Accidents happen, more people die through land travel, but only because more people travel by land. Sure a plane crash will kill hundreds but how many planes crash a day? As for the sea, who knows, that has been killing fish for centuries. Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Your friend and I belong to the same club. I am also afraid of traveling, most esp. by plane and ship. My mind is just too advanced and creative, I'd start thinking of all negative thoughts while high up there on the plane and I could not help praying the whole journey. It is soooooo scary, I'd rather stay where I am now for the rest of my life. Traveling is not my tning.

LOL I guess you guys aren't the only ones who think alike. Don't worry, not every plane gets into an accident. Hopefully you won't have to experience such. =D

If you ask me which is the fastest, I can answer you. But for the safest, each mode has their own danger.

I think travel on land is most dangerous as today's traffic is terrible and people likes to speed no mater where they go. If you travel by sea and you don't know how to swim, at least you can still use a float, but when accidents happened on the road, there is pretty much nothing you can do but pray for your safety.

That is so true. I even speed up whenever I can. Just a few days ago, there was an accident by our house due to a drunk driver. But there really is nothing you can do if it is your time to go.

Eventhough taking precaution we met some accidents because of others negligence when we travel on land.

I know. I once got into a car accident because the Korean driver was driving so fast while at a curve. He hit my car and out came the left light.

Well about 42,000 die a year from automobile accidents. Only 120 die from airline crashes. Water accidents are somewhere in between with 630 deaths. I'd say it's most dangerous to travel on land and safest to travel by air.

I know there are a lot of automobile accidents in a year but I didn't know that it amounted to that much. Thanks for the info!

I think travel by land is actually most dangerous because there are more car accident everyday than airplane or ship. Airplane accident is most scary though.
