I can't sleep without light especially when I watched horror movies at night. I'm so afraid of the dark. Can you tell me how to overcome my fear?

Maybe this will pass. I used to be afraid of the dark when I was a little kid. I had problems to go from the living room to the kitchen at night. But now I like to stay in the dark. Maybe you should try to think that it's comfortable to stay in a dark room. And why do you watch horrors?

I am fond of watching horror movies, I don't know but I used to watch horrors than drama or what ever... maybe I like the effects of the horror movies, screaming when I get frightened but I think that's the reason why I'm afraid of the dark...

I am a little afraid of the dark. It's mostly when I'm alone. It does make me feel uncomfortable, when I'm alone or something. It's too bad, when my husband is around and such. But I do find that I'm still a little afraid of the dark.

I am scared of the dark and always have been. I am actually very particular about how I sleep, for instance I have to have the T.V on. I can't have a night light on, with music on, it has to be the T.V. I even have to have the same channel on every night else I will lay there listening to how it is not the show that is supposed to be playing and I can't go to sleep. I am not really like that with anything except for my sleep pattern though. I am scared of the dark even if I'm with people, I mean sure it helps some but not well enough to were I can go into a good sleep. I am also scared of the dark not just when I am going to bed, if the power goes out, and it is dark outside but not quite bed time yet I still freak out. I don't know it's like my heart starts to race and I do not know what is around me. I am also not a huge fan of driving at night, if it's really late and i'm alone on a open road it kind of freaks me out. I then make sure I get on a rode with a lot of people. I guess I watched to many scary movies as a kid. =)

I'm also afraid of the dark and can't sleep at night without light that's why the only solution that I usually do is make my eyes really tired that I would be really sleepy and won't even bother if lights are open or not.

What are the things that you usually do to make you tired? I used to listen music to overcome my fear but I'm still scared.

I usually surf the internet, read some books and watch TV. These are the things that can make your eyes tired that would easily make you feel sleepy. :)

As much as you can, do not watch horror movies without lights at night. Just sleep with your lights on so you could overcome your fear. Or if you can't stop watching them, have a friend come over to watch with you and invite him/her to sleep over.

I am 26 and still are afraid of the dark. I have to have a night light on for me to go to sleep. Otherwise I get horrible nightmares. My little girls are still scared of the dark and someone told them that it is something that they will grow out of so stop being a baby. I told them, "Look at me. It is NOT something that everyone grows out of. It will happen for you when you are ready, if not then it is no big deal to have a night light."

I'm not affraid of the darkness. You could not be eaten by ghosts or something like that :) Better think of the Earth and reduce the electricity.

Hi, liza21. Yes, I am afraid of the dark, when I feel very scared. To overcome your fear, the best thing to do would be to not watch a scary movie so that you won't be scared to go to sleep at night. This is the best way in overcoming your fear.

The only possible way to overcome your fear is to dare yourself do the things that you are afraid of. You are afraid of the dark esp after watching horror films, then sleep with the lights off after watching a horror films. Think that you are sleeping with the lights on and never think of the horror films that you just watched recently. Or you can start by sleeping with the lights off,and don't watch horror movies. Besides, sleeping with the lights on is not good,it can damaged your skin.
