I never gave up my kitties and I have 4 healthy kids. You do need to be careful though as there is bacteria and other nasties that are carried in the feces that can cause harm. Therefore you should not change the litter while pregnant or in the least wear a mask and rubber gloves and still really washing up well. Also do not go barefoot near the box. Follow the normal safety ways and you will be fine.

Hi there: I have a lot of pets once. I just loved them. I have cats, dogs, lizards, spiders, fishes, and snakes. When the children started arriving, I have to let them go for safety and health reasons. My kids are quite sadistic when it comes to pets. What they can lay hands on, they would throw around as if they're teddy bears. I can't bear to see the animals hurt and they might retaliate if hurt too much. My home nowadays is a pet-free zone.

An expectant mother should not be taking care of the cat's litter box, but other than that, there is no reason to get rid of the cats. In fact, a cat or two would probably be good for the health of both mother and child.

It so hard to tell whether I would do something like that and I am not pregnant (or even married) to find out whether I will. However, if I am on the case, as being pregnant is a huge deal so I guess I probably need to do something about the cats. I can't just get rid of them, they're part of my family. I probably find a shelter for them to live temporary like pet shelter or something. Once the child grow up a bit, I can take them back.

I gave them to some of our friends and my brothers and sister's friends and make sure that they will be alright in their new found family.

yess....that is a good advice from a mother to her daughter. I won't risk my baby's health just for a cat. My friend used to love cats very much, now she hates them. In her eight-month pregnancy, she had to lost her baby just because of the toxsoplasm. She had a lot of cats. Many people had warned her, but she ignored all of the advice. I hope there won't be any sad experience like that again... have a blessed day..

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I will pray for her little angel. Yeah, you're right. Hope there wont be anymore cases like that.

Of course I will give up my cats or any other pet or thing that would pose as a danger to my baby. Better to be precautionary about it than to have my baby suffer later. I always try to use the alpha-beta error when making a decision. An alpha error is when what is thought is true is actually false. A beta error is when what is thought is false is actually true. For example: Premise: Cats are dangerous to pregnant women. Alpha error - The truth is-cats are not dangerous to pregnant women. You eliminate the cats. (Effect - Aw, I shoulda kept the cats!) Beta error - The truth is-cats are dangerous to pregnant women. You do not eliminate the cats. (Effect - Oh no, my baby has this or that disease!) Better to commit the alpha error than the beta error, right? (Am I sounding geeky?)

Yes, in a heartbeat. I had a cat when I got pregnant also, and I got rid of him. The health and safety of your baby is first and foremost now.
