How great would it be if we all got universal housing?

In the country of Kuwait, I've read that there is free housing for everyone.. there is no homeless! It is such a small but very wealthy country that there is money enough for people to get housing. Half of the people may not even have to go to work. But the catch is that the voting rights are much restricted. Until recently women were not allowed to vote and people had to be "qualified" to vote. If you can choose, what if your country allowed everyone to have a roof over their head but would not allow you to vote or would you live in the country where you can vote but you have to work for your house?

In other words, would we rather be socialist or democratic? I'd ten times rather chart my own course than have the government "take care" of me. Dependence on a government means a loss of personal freedom. No thanks.

It took me a while to find this... in islam you are only obliged to donate 2.5% of your? yearly income. thats why theres no homeless people in kuwat, uae, saudi arabia. they are giving back to the community. the rest of the money is theres, there are no restrictions on what they can and cant spend it on, unless its haram. I also read that there are only 2.25 million people in Kuwait, so they don't have as many to house as here in the US. Now, to answer your question...YES it would be GREAT if we would be willing to take care of each other rather than being selfish brats!!!! I also wonder how the homeless pay for their food & utility bills or if it's included???

I don't believe that you have to give up your right to vote in order to share!!! The citizens in the countries mentioned NEVER had the right to vote to begin with. They didn't lose their right to vote in order to provide homes for the homeless. That's just a scare tactic people here in the US who don't want to share use to control the masses!!! I currently give 33% of my pay so I can be screwed in the rear by the rich!!! Why would I hesitate to give 2.5% to take care of the less fortunate??? I've had 2 homeless people living in my home just this year. It cost me more than 2.5% to take care of them, so for me it could be a bargain!!!

It would be great if we can all vote and have free housing at the same time. But I don't even know if my votes are really counting sometimes here anyway.

If Islam is so good about giving aid where were they during the Tsunamis that hit Muslim countries? It was the American People who gave on their own, the US Government, and other Christian Nations that gave the aid and helped the victims. Only after the media reported that Muslim nations had not given any money did they donate relief aid. I would not want to give up my right to vote.

History tells us that the more the people accept care from the Government, the less influence they have over their own life and their Government. So you give up freedom for security.

That's a good point, but a lot of the time, I still don't feel so free.

Hmm... quite difficult to answer. We need first shelter to protect ourselves from cold, rain and rough weather. There are country out there with voting rights to its citizens but this right do not bring any changes to the majority people and theirs lives. They still thrive with hunger and for shelter, although there are programs by international communities like HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, yet there are countless people living under the sky.

Yes, exactly, even if we vote, it doesn't mean we really have a choice... a lot of the times what we vote for can not even be passed.

I agree to your point of Kuwait being a rich country. And it is all about the oil they have in their land. Which would really boos their economy what with all the demands all over the world. It not everyday that you will be able to live in a country with oil on your feet. It can make the revenues in that country soar up high. That is why they are able to give back what the government earned to the people like housing projects. Which is very good for the government to give back to the people. But the sad part is they dont have those right to vote. You have to qualify to vote? That is very ridiculous! What would be the qualifications to vote anyway? They should empower women also. That is a very sad story. Why do they even bother have an election when not everyone has the power to vote. And also what is the problem with women being able to vote? Its not as if they dont have any decision making skills. I would rather pay for my house than be under a very ridiculous government like that.

Do you always vote (if you are a woman) in your country? And if so, how has it benefited you?

It is true that Kuwait is divided into three part. It is also true that they have a lot of housing for homeless. These unbelievable situation can happen in similar time because the oil field. As for the Question, I think I would choose the house. Because I never vote, I didn't like to use that right.
