Are we still in recession, and do we expect something worse to happen? I don't know. We all just have to pray that we can get out of this difficulty sooner better than later. From last quarter report, Wal - mart indeed drop its sales 7%. In contrary, the dollar stores chain have make profit. Isn't it because we changing our shop habits, and we would rather go for something economic? For me, I would say yes. I shop more often in the dollar stores than while ago actually, due to their attractive price in all items. One thing I have to question though. some of the bigger - size dollar stores, such as family dollar, or dollar tree, they offer food and produce section within their stores. Would you dare to purchase those produces from dollar stores?

i have and would purchase produce and frozen foos from dollar stores, and i'm still living. i bet these dollar stores have a high amount of profit due to the cheaper costs they charge. i'm not even sure why they're not as crowded as some of the grocery stores. and you know what, if you ask the grocery stores where all the food is they throw out they might show you and at least half of it is still quite eatible. just to have the nerve to ask them for it...they will usually give it to you for free, so i have heard on tv anyways. i watched a show that they did that one, and they made really good recipes from the food.

if the food are really worth a dollar then why not buy it right. you should really be careful on buying foods, you should always check the expiry date or whatever facts that are important

i also find that thrift stores are really busy as well. our local dollar store doesnt offer a great selection of food and i often find that my local grocery store is cheaper than the dollar store for groceries but i buy a lot of other stuff there.

Yes, I would. I actually frequent the 99 cent store as well as the Dollar Tree here in town. The first one because they do have a variety of vegetables to choose from. Plus, it's only $1 which is a bargain. I also like going to the Dollar Tree because they have frozen chicken in these economical packs. When I think about it it's actually cheaper to get the chicken there then at WinCo or some other grocery store. Overall, it's more of a first come first serve thing with these dollar stores. Since the prices are so cheap the items usually sell out quick so you do have to frequent them to see if there are any new things available.

It is understandable that dollar stores and discount stores would make a profit during a recession. Consumers have to shop where they will get the most for their money.

I've been buying from the local dollar store for years. Without it, my food budget would have to be more than I could really afford. I've hardly ever had any problems with food from the dollar store. The brands aren't always the best, and once in a while I find something that I wouldn't buy again because of poor quality. But they also have well-known brands now and then. I buy all my toiletries, and a good percentage of my food at the dollar store. They have refrigerator and freezer sections, so there's usually a good choice.

i shop at dollartree and have purchased can goods from them. i never found any defect in any of them. i think dollartree has good quality products. there are some individuals i came in contact with who will not shop in dollar stores. they said to me there is junk in dollar stores. i disagree. those of us who don't make alot of money we certainly welcome dollar stores. i know i do.

Yes I would, depending on the brand they stock and the expiry date. As long as the packaging is clean and it looks fine, I don't see a reason not to purchase such stuff from dollar stores. After all, I can always complain to someone if the food causes me sickness or anything.

I agree. I have been going to a local dollar store for a while now (2 years maybe), to stock up on stuff that doesn't go bad that easily, and I have seen that the store is much more full now than it used to be in the past. So I do think more and more people are discovering the dollar store and their awesome prices!

We haven't been in a recession since July 2009. It's going to be a long road out. I've been a dollar store fan for specific items.

If i really needed food and I was low on cash I would probably buy the food from there but the produce i would be more sketchy about. I do find myself going to the dollar store more than before though to save money and i have no problem purchasing my toiletries and laundry supplies from there.
