how to plan your day

everybody should make 'to do lists'. they keep you organised. police [fairly] recently arrested a 19 year old for suspected drug dealing and found a note on him saying 'go on the rob. sell weed'. when quizzed the youth said he needed to structure his day. so what goes on your to do list? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/7849131/Robbing-instructions-note-helps-catch-drug-dealer.html

It's funny that making your "to do list" will actualliy cause you trouble. That kid must be devastated after he found out that "it's all because of his plan list". Anyway, I always plan what I need to do everyday ahead of time. Usually, in my "to do list", the usual things I write were the following: 1. read emails, 2. respond to important emails 3. attend meetings for this and that with this and that 4. make processes for this and that 5. pass and forward reports to meet deliverables everyday. Somewhat my day is composed with my job and that eats paper a lot. :)

I like to make lists for my husband. He does not like receiving them, so I quit. Once in awhile I will do one. I think having more than one thing on the list scares him. I make lists of what I have completed. I make grocery/shopping lists and misplace them before I get them to the car, then make another before I go in the store and misplace it before I get in the door. The more pockets I have the greater the potential to lose lists and keys. My best list says 1. eat some chocolate, 2. Have some coffee, 3. crawl back in bed and listen to some music, take a nap. Actually, this is awful, as it is making me think I need to make a list for myself to do tomorrow.

OK, your husband doesn't like your lists, but does he need them. I guess I would be more fearful if I actually had to remember 2 or 3 things; much easier with a list. Although that does leave a written record which can be a bit messy when it comes to discussing the day's activities.

@jb, I actually need to add: pay three bills, go to recycling, and at the end of the day I will be giving two units of red blood cells at the Red Cross Blood drive. @djbtol I am not sure if hubby needs the lists or not. Some of the things on them I REALLY need him to do. Some of the things that at one time would have been on the list are now on mine, like bill paying, because I am not working at this time. I guess he figures he is a grown up and does not have to be reminded of everything.

you don't need to make a new list though. just use that list. it's a good one

Maybe I need to check on my privacy protection rights first before I make my list. Sometimes at work I use a list as it helps with workload and deadlines. Usually thing are more relaxed at home, of course that is me talking. Often my wife determines that I need a list to make use of my time, so she creates one. You didn't tell us about your list. Detailed or broad? Work, home or both? Just your to-do items, or someone elses also?

Let me see if I know anything about rabbtits. Can I assume that once you get through the list you can take a nap? And when you get up the next morning you start over at the beginning of the list?

Well the nap part just makes good sense. And unless there is a reason to change, I might just as well do the same thing tomorrow. If you don't believe that, then all I can say is "a little birdie told me".

I was just reading one about a murderer's diary and how it is helping the prosecution convict him. Nice of him to take organized notes that way.

I love hearing stories of stupid criminals. It makes my day! I have a magnetic white board stuck on my fridge which I write daily tasks on. As we work from home, some times these are business things that I need to do. Lately though these lists have included lots of cleaning and small odd jobs that need doing around the home as we are planning on selling our house very soon and there is a lot of work to be done. We have don a lot already and our house looks better than it ever has! But it takes a lot of work to maintain the level of neatness requires when having a house on the market. Potential buyers could come through at any time and we do not want to be running around at the last minute tidying up mess.

houses never look so nice as when you are planning to move out, whether you are selling or just want a deposit back. bit of a shame really but then again keeping them like that all the time would be very time consuming.

That's right, it is hard work. Cars are the same, I hate cleaning my cars, but only get into it seriously when I plan on selling them!

I sometimes make a to do list but would never make one if I were planning to do illegal things on that day. That wasn't too bright. He should be one of the world's dumbest criminals.

WWWOOWW.. Not only is the kid not very bright for attempting to rob someone/something. He's an even bigger dummy for writing his day plans on paper. :| That's crazy! I don't ever make to-do-lists, unless I have a very busy day ahead of me. Which happens very rarely.

It's a good thing that lad had his list...there is lot's of structure in prison. My husband is the list maker in the family and I'm the keeper of appointments so I have calendars...big ones...small ones. We have to do lists related to the business, to do lists for the house, to do lists for the camper. The only list I'm actually in charge of is the grocery list.

I make to do lists, too. Even on days where I don't have much going on, I still make a to do list. LOL. Like today, I'm working 7 am to 3:30pm, and after that I need to run to the bank to deposit some checks, I need to consign some clothes at the local used clothes shop (they're piling up in my closet), I need to re-organize my room, and I wanted to shop a little bit for some Christmas presents. Although the problem with me (and hopefully others) is that I can write whatever I want to do DOWN, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'll be motivated enough to complete whatever tasks I wrote down earlier. I am bad like that.

don't worry about it. if you leave most jobs longer enough you won't need to do them at all.
