Watched a baby sleeping...not a new born, but like a 8mon-3ish year old...face down, butt high in the air...How in the world do they manage that? I have tried, and oh boy its odd. At first I thought it was just my crazy munchkin, but my wife she runs a day care, and all the kids do it.... You figure they are just trying to get all the blood to rush to their heads ?? What do you think?

I think that the reason that children do this is because of the fact that it is comforting to them. You see, sleeping in that kind of a position is the closest that they are able to get to being in the same position that they were in prior to the time that they were born. My son just turned four years old about two weeks ago and there are a lot of times that I will find him sleeping in this exact position, I think that it looks sweet though I also admit that it looks quite uncomfortable.

I have to agree with this reasoning. I love to watch my son sleep. He tosses and turns like crazy most of the time but he does like that butt up in the air pose often! Kids are so adorable!

This is actually a Yoga pose, called," The Pose of the Child!" Its beneficial to health for, as you say,to get a blood rush to the head. As a Yogi for many years this is one of my favorite Asana's. I enjoy sleeping this way for a short time most nights. First I lie on my stomach, then bring my legs up under my body, fold a pillow under my head, turn my head to one side, and complete relaxation is automatic. This pose cannot be assumed for long periods. When my legs eventually lose circulation, I automatically turn onto my side without waking.

Back in the day I used to watch my kids sleep. I don't know why, but I would sit there and watch them sleep for hours. Yes, it is cute how they sleep when they get just a bit older. I used to love how incredibly peaceful they look.

I know what you're talking about...when my brother was about 3 or 4, he slept like that. So did another kid in our neighborhood (we had the same babysitter and stayed in the same house). I imagine that it feels good on the lower back and the hips? I'm guessing because I do yoga and that can feel great any day.

My brother used to sleep like that when he was a baby too... maybe it's just a typical baby thing? I don't really know if I slept like that when I was a baby though, but maybe it's something quite common indeed.

HAHA! I guess that's part of the mystery and privilege of being a child.
