I have used AVG , Avast , Avira , Norton , Kaspersky and Mcafee . Out of this I personally love AVG more than the others and am using only AVG now . The latest version of AVG is simply the best . It detects almost 95% of the threats and efficiently removes them . Also it is very simple to use . The updation proces is very simple . And above all it is completely FREE to use . My advice is if you opt for a free Anti Virus go for AVG. If you are going to buy a paid version Kaspersky will be a little better than AVG paid , but not much difference between the two .

For me Avast will always be the best cause even though its free it protects the system better than AVG. Although I never bought the AVG pay version only used the free AVG. On the basis of my using experience I would suggest you to use Avast. Have a nice day and happy my lotting!! :)

Which version of AVG do you mean ? Free or Paid version ? If you mean the free version...ok .. it's garbage.. I use kaspersky antivirus. AVAST is good too. One thing that I hate is that it's impossible to close the antivirus (EXIT THE SOFTWARE) if you've already logged on to windows ! If that doesn't matter, I'd suggest AVAST =) otherwise, go for kaspersky. It won't really slow down your pc.

I would have to say that I would go for Avast all the way. I have tried many anti-virus software and I have only been so satisfied with Avast. But if needed a second choice, I would also recommend Avira. AVG is good but as you mentioned, it does not detect virus that well. I have also tried ESET/NOD32, Kaspersky, and others but I just wasn't as contented as Avast. My favorite feature of this anti-virus program is the pre-boot scan.

I have been using Avast for nearly three years and I find it quite effective. I recommend Avast. I have not used AVG therefore, I do not know much about it.

Out of those two I've only used AVG, but it seemed to work fine for me... I got the free version though, and after some time using it, it started asking me to upgrade all the time, so I ended up getting rid of it and went back to what I used to have, Norton. Norton doesn't really make my computer go slow, so it doesn't bother me.

I used Kaspersky before but never had the chance to renew the license so I just use AVG. Also, I don't like the versions of Kaspersky nowadays. For me, the versions 5 and 6 were the best in detecting viruses. As I have switched to AVG, everything went fine virus files were detected but not all especially memory type viruses. But my colleague told me that he sends reports to AVG regarding known viruses in his PC but are not detected by AVG yet. Then as the new update was released, the reported virus was already detected. I used AVG for I think almost two years, until I wasn't able to update it's virus definition and felt like my computer gets slow. I wasn't sure what causes it but I removed it as well together with other programs that I don't use often. I only detect remove the viruses by myself manually. -) When I bought my netbook, I heard about Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). It's a free anti virus software for genuine copy of Windows. I used it and until now, I was so satisfied. Viruses, malwares, spywares, etc. were detected before it could infect my PC. Autorun malware from usb storage were also cleaned so it doesn't infect my PC. It was so light that it seems like it was not running and the interface was the most simplest that I've seen so far. It was very good for not so tech savvy people with a tight security as well. Better try MSE too. -)

the anti virus must be capable of deleting the virus so i recommend you avg anti virus. since you are opting for a free anti virus the other option can be nod 32. but if you want to consider a paid anti virus then you can consider avira anti virus instead of norton(very heavy package)
