"In an interview, Iraq's top Catholic prelate, Chaldean Cardinal Emmanuel III Delly, encouraged the country's remaining 1.5 million Christians to stay." Is this sound advice? What do you think?

All he is asking Christians to do is to stand up and fight, and not to seek escape. Seeking escape from sufferings is not the Christian way of doing things. The one who seek escape from suffering is not a true Christian.

Jesus did not flee when soldiers were seeking him to crucify. He could have if he wanted to. He stood his ground until they came and took him.

It's just that I was reading Matthew 10:23 (New International Version) "When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes." I don't remember Jesus encouraging anyone to fight.

It is all about seeding Fears to loose Faiths. With or without encouragement or advice the real questions are...... Do Iraq no longer accepts Christianity? Is it already becoming a Communist state or another purely only an Islamic Nation like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?....... Or any or for whatever reasons or question about Christianity should now be PROHIBiTED in Iraq.

And what happened to freedom of religion? Everyone, every faith should condemn these acts of violence. They should not be encouraged but condemned. The people who encourage these kinds of violence should be ostracized from all communities.

Any violent atrocities and cruelty against to all humanities should not be encourage by anyone. The Iraqi governing law of the land should always be ruled out. Those Christians who have perished on these violent acts are they own people, they should take care all of their people whether Christians or Moslems. As for Christianity, Christians are always stronger and has more power when they are weak. The more persecutions all Christians, Christians Faiths roots gets more deeper and more stronger. Christianity primordial foundations and beginnings are to love (including your enemies), peace, harmony and unity. From or to God, from or to self and from or to others. There are a lot of Christian martyrs than others, who have saved and inspired a lot of people whether who has Christian Faiths already and those who have not yet accepted Christianity to themselves. Christianity are all about the truths of our Humanity. Anyone who embraces and felt in their life what Christianity are all about, can found more comforts and refuges from all tribulations and sufferings of this world. The Divine Wisdoms of Christianity keep us all stronger and still standing on any tribulations and sufferings we can have in our life. And as Christians we should always pray for God's merciful and forgiveness, and give for all of us peace, hope, love, harmony and unity..... Christians ultimate and lethal weapons are prayers. Satan hate and crumbles to the ground from prayers. ...... God please have mercy to all of us, for those have perished servicing You, our Lord God and for those who put all of these iniquities to all of us. May they be enlightened by piercing your sword of Truths to have peace into the center of their body, heart, soul and spirit. In the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit..... Amen.... The Serenity Prayer --- Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971) God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next... Amen. An Internet Prayer For Peace --- Source: Pax Christi O God, you are the source of life and peace. Praised be your name forever. We know it is you who turn our minds to thoughts of peace. Hear our prayer in this time of crisis. Your power changes hearts. Muslims, Christians and Jews remember, and profoundly affirm, that they are followers of the one God, Children of Abraham, brothers and sisters; enemies begin to speak to one another; those who were estranged join hands in friendship; nations seek the way of peace together. Strengthen our resolve to give witness to these truths by the way we live. Give to us: Understanding that puts an end to strife; Mercy that quenches hatred, and Forgiveness that overcomes vengeance. Empower all people to live in your law of love Amen. Grant Us Your Salvation --- Book of Common Prayer 1979 Show us your mercy, O Lord; And grant us your salvation. Clothe your ministers with righteousness; Let your people sing with joy. Give peace, O Lord, in all the world; For only in you can we live in safety. Lord, keep this nation under your care; And guide us in the way of justice and truth. Let your way be known upon earth; Your saving health among all nations. Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten; Nor the hope of the poor be taken away. Create in us clean hearts, O God; And sustain us by your Holy Spirit. Grant Us Your Peace --- St. Augustine O Lord, my God, grant us your peace; already, indeed, you have made us rich in all things! Give us that peace of being at rest, that sabbath peace, the peace which knows no end. Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace --- St. Francis of Assisi Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love, Where there is injury, pardon Where there is doubt, faith, Where there is despair, hope, Where there is darkness, light, Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, not so much to be understood as to understand, not so much to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in dying that we awake to eternal life. Prayer For Peace Among Nations --- William Temple (1881-1944) O Almighty God, the Father of all humanity, turn, we pray, the hearts of all peoples and their rulers, that by the power of your Holy Spirit peace may be established among the nations on the foundation of justice, righteousness and truth; through him who was lifted up on the cross to draw all people to himself, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you want to be a Marter. If you don't have children or family to worry about. But for most people, I don't think it's a great idea.

I would think that they should encourage these poor people to get out of this situation as soon as possible and move to a place where there is life is safe. Iraq is not a good place to be at this time. Most of the victims in that massacre were women and children. In this day and age we would think that we could come up with better ways to deal with differences than violence.
