Sweet and sour people...

Well apparently the kids Naomi's are doing this thing. They wave at people in other vehicles as they are riding in the school bus or in the car. The people who wave back are sweet, and the ones who don't are sour. There sure are a lot of sour people in Sacramento. How many people would be sweet if a child waved at you from another car? How many would be sour? Do your children play this? Do you think it's cute, or are you not amused?

You kidding? Of course, I would wave back, or at least smile if I was a bit late in observing. :) Kids have a way Dawny - they grab your attention when in shops, or in queues. The eye to eye contact thingy. :) Then they hide behind their parents. And then peep back wondering if you are smart enough or are waiting to look at them or not. :) Very naughty ... and very entertaining. :)

Hello Dawn. I think it funny when kids do that. My niece always stuck her tongue out at people when they did not wave or greet back. Was she wrong in doing that? Nope, it will teach adults that kids need to be greeted and respected as well. I always greet them if they wave. I have good manners, you know. TATA.

Yeah - kids try that Dawny! And at times they try to show off their toys as if telling you - did you see mine, have you got one like that. :) Love it when they do something like that. :) And when these same kids grow up - they become naughty like Sunny bunny! :(

Yes, my kids do this sometimes and I also remember doing it myself as a child. I've seen other kids do it to us too....and I wave back...in fact, we all wave back..lol My kids don't keep count of how many wave back (they do it sometimes..not always). But just yesterday, my 10 year old waved at someone who lived in the same apartment complex as us (and it's a small complex and everyone knows everyone else atleast by sight). My son did it mistaking it to be someone he considers his second mom...but this man didn't know that, right? And he didn't even bother to wave back! Big deal...he's one meanie anyway...hehehe

That's sweet. I was told , I honestly can't remember, that I used to fly the finger to truckers when I was little. To answer your question, I would wave back. i think it is the friendly thing to do. I still am not a child person but I'm in a car and they are safe in their bus , what's the problem?

Bah. Humbug. Dang parents ought to teach their children to keep their bloody happiness and innocence to themselves. Hmpf! These days a loner old man like me waving back at children are glared at by suspicious parents who think all strangers are dangerous child molesters, or at the very least potential ones. It isn't worth it. Merry christmas, everyone.

hmmm, I did I double take there. "betcha" was meant to be a phonetic dialect for "bet you" - I hear and say it so often I didn't realize what it looked like written down.

I'm sure I did this with my friends when I was little. But I couldn't remember if we ever labelled the people that we waved at. Although I don't notice much of anything on the road when I'm driving, because I'm focused on the road, I couldn't think of not waving back if I did some little kids waving at me. I think it is but natural.

Over here in the bush, most passing traffic acknowledges each other as they pass. Not so much the big grain or cattle trucks but most people live and work in the area and the chances are they are someone you know. Even if they are not, it's a common courtesy to raise your hand in a gesture of greeting as you pass each other. Many people feel, including myself, that not to return the gesture is rude and ignorant...therefore, sour.

I guess I'm one of the sweet (and apparently rare LOL) ones in Sacramento, because I think it's cute and can't help but smile. I played this when I was little, although I never knew it had a name. LOL My kids never played it though. However, there was this one incident not too long ago that was kind of similar, in a way. While I had been parked in a parking lot my oldest had been flicking his hands around in the front seat. I happened to glance over to a woman who had parked next to us, give us a rather startled and scared look our way. I couldn't help but laugh a little as I rolled the window down. She asked if everything was okay. I told her everything's fine...my son's just autistic, he always does that! Boy was she relieved! Poor woman, I think she might have thought he was having a seizure or something!

Car didn't do much hand flapping, but I do remember when he was 3, playing with a little girl at McDonald's, and he flapped his hands, and that mother got her kid out of there so fast. My ex was there, and didn't know what to say. In retrospect, I probably would have gone over to her and asked if something was wrong.

I do find it amusing when I see kids in a car waving at me. I always wave back when that happens and it always puts a smile on my face. I think it is really cute and I see it often especially when sitting at a red light. I like it when it happens because it makes me smile and feel good. My kids used to do that too when they were young and make a game out of it too. They had worse names for the people who didn't wave back, something like grouchy when they didn't wave. I think most people would think it cute and wave back but some people are just miserable and no matter what you can't get a smile out of them or a wave. I don't blame your kids for making names for them. Cheers and Happy mylotting my friend Chris

my son is quite serious when traveling, i guess kids who does that are mostly girls. i am a sour person when a person is sour to me. but i am sweet with kids who are sweet too. a wave will not take 1 minute so why not wave back. i can not believe there are sour people who will not wave back to sweets kids. i will give a wave and a wink for them. i am sure my wife she will wave back as well.

I did this and my kids did it a of the time and people smiled and waved back at them. I remember as children we moved outside of the city and our main delight was to go to the nearby railway track and wait for a train to pass. We would wave like crazy and the driver would blow the whistle of the train and wave to us and some of the passengers used to do it too. Rather pathetic in retrospect....... It was probably the highlight of our weekends

Mine is too young to go to school yet, but i see where your coming from, there is no harm in waving, it is just being polite, kids are innocent people, my son waves at people he doesn't know when we go shopping, he is only 2, some people wave back, some smile back, and others, well they are just sour.

I do not always see fast enough to catch something like that. I would wave,if I saw it. My husband would probably be an instigator. He is cute with little kids. I think most people around here, at least that I know, are sweeties.

I wave back when children wave at me. I even talk to children in other people's carts. There was this cute little girl that I met on aisle one this morning, I would see her about every other aisle. She'd smile and say "Hi Miss Betty". I'd smile back and say, "Hello Taylor". It made the unpleasant chore of grocery shopping much more pleasant.

I don't ever remember doing this when I was younger. What I do remember doing, however, was when we were travelling between home and Cincinnati and it was daylight we would do our arms like the horns in the big trucks to try to get the big truck drivers to blow their horns for us. If memory serves me correctly, I would say that about 75% of the time, they would blow the horn for us, so the majority of them were sweet if we want to look at things that way.

LOL, sweet and sour..never heard of it that way. I think it's cute...but...think about this-what if they wave at some pervert and he gets the wrong idea and something happens? Better safe then sorry these days-I always tell my children not to do this..don't talk to strangers and by waving it sort of is saying hi. By the way-I don't wave back but I'll smile.

Well presumably the child is in a vehicle that is being driven by a responsible adult. It would be different if the child was alone out on the street and waving at people...

I'm not bothered. My partner must be sweet as she usually waves back. Most children in the UK would be sweet, I'd think: with a lot of sour adults.

I think I would be sweet unless I'm driving in which case I'll probably be concentrating too hard on the road to notice a couple kids in the backseat. I hate driving though and I love being a passenger.
