I was put on the depo provera shot about 3 months ago for being so animic. They said they wanted to stop my mentstral cyle for good to see if this would help. I had a little over 2 week period once I got the shot and since then I haven't had one. I'm not complaining believe me. I just was wondering if anyone has been put on this shot and if it stopped your period did you still get all the symptomns of a period like you were about to start. Please I really need someone to answer my question. If you haven't been on this shot or don't know anything about it please don't respond.

Hi Kerri, I was on that shot a few years ago and honestly would not recommend it but it could be just that I had a bad experience. I was having trouble with my periods ...bleeding in between etc. Several exams showed nothing to be wrong so the shot was to stop my periods. It did for a while and then lots of break through bleeding started up again. Come to find out, I had Cervical cancer that had begun to spread. I gained a lot of weight while getting that shot. A specialist was sitting in the office during one of my visits and it was she that discovered the cancer. When they went to give me the shot in my arm, she stopped them. Unless you weigh over 200 pounds then it is quite dangerous to get this shot in your arm and should be given in the butt. Getting it in the arm can cause heart problems. In answer to your question, I did not feel like I was getting my period while on the shot.

Wow I'm really sorry to hear about your bad expericence with the shot. That had to be a very scary situation that you went through. Is everything ok now? Yeah they put me on it to stop the periods and it's just really werid that I feel the cramps like I'm about to start its like should I wear a pad or not I really don't want to take the chance of going out and then all of a sudden it starts. You know what mean. Well I hope everything worked out for you and things are getting taken care of. Thanks for responding to my question.

Oh I'm fine, Kerri. This was quite a while ago and they caught it in time. I learned a lot about this shot though throughout my ordeal. It kind of makes sense that you might be feeling some cramping around the time that your period is supposed to start. I never did but it could be different for everyone. I hope you get the problem with your iron straightened out. I know you probably hate it but liver is an excellent source of iron. If its cooked right, it's not so bad.

I personally have never been on the shot, but a good friend of mine was. It stopped her period completely. In fact, one time she was overdue for her shot because it totally slipped her mind and she forgot about it! And she didn't get her period after stopping the shot. She was so worried she might have gotten pregnant while being off the shot! But luckily she wasn't and she got back on the shot right away. But yes, it completely stopped her period... even after she stopped taking it!
