I suddenly think whoever invented Taxi as a paid per meter car rental was incredible. I checked there's some names for how and who invented it. Forget about who invented this Taxi, but I think it's like a universal name as a paid per meter car rental in almost every countries.
Taxi name is not a brand like Facebook, it's similarly like Hotel. Though, in my view, Hotel was not invented, it's started as common business but not as a special tool or device. (Hope I elaborated this well so you get what I meant)
And I don't know whether the Taxi name has been patented or not. Well, just imagined if it's patented and everyone who use the name of taxi or the related words, I think it will be a lot of money that the inventor will gain afterall.

Absolutely utilizing a patent without the consent would certainly generated a huge lump sum of money. As the law stipulates that ignorance is not excuse so best if anyone is starting any form of business that they get a great attorney to figure out all the ins and outs.
As later it will be too late, perhaps destruction of someones potential good business.

I agree the name Taxi refers to a car, jeep which we hire for our use for certain time, may be few hours or days, it may or may not have a meter that shows the fare directly, some taxi owners charge on the basis of the speedo meter on the taxi panel, it shows kilometer travelled, some just bargain for the fare..
I don't have any idea if the term Taxi carries a patent..
